QD difficulties

Of all of the various products I purchased as a result of being a member on this board, I have the most difficulty with quick detailers. I seem to always have problems with smearing. To prevent that, I now go over the entire car again with a dry clean MF to buff off any streaks left by the QD. The QD does leave the finish nice and slick, but it seems like a lot of work to use that I most times opt for apply a coat of wax instead. So what is the proper technique to using a QD?

I currently have Adams, Pinnacle and Z6.

1. Make sure your car is in the shade. I always do my car in my garage compared to outside of it. Big difference!

2. Make sure your QD your car when its cool. Don't detail your car if its been in the hot sun a couple of hours. Allow it to cool down, then apply the detailer. This also makes a difference!

3. Always use clean microfiber towels.

Hopes this helps...If you have been doing this, then I don't know what to tell you.

Quick Detailing sprays are one of the easiest products to use IMO. Why you're having so much trouble is beyond me... I use Clearkote QS and Megs Final Detail and never have any problems. Spray on, wipe with MF, turn MF over and wipe again, that's it! What MF cloths are you using? If you're using cheap/inferior quality MF cloths, that might be your problem... try using PakShak MF cloths, that's what I use.

I like the method described in david b's book of applying the QD to a damp microfiber cloth. It seems to not streak for me and you end up using less product.

Another possibility is the QD is being applied too heavily.

Try holding the bottle 12-18" from the surface, and as you squeeze the trigger, fan it side to side. This will spread the product over a wider area.

If it takes more than 2 wipes (across, then turn the MF over and wipe back), chances are you've used too much product.

I use a nice PakShak MF, folded in half. I lightly spray a section of the car and wipe in back and forth motions until the area is mostly dry. then turn to the dry side of the MF and buff off the streaks.

What kind of wax/sealant do you have on the paint now? The performance of QDs can sometimes be compromised due to incompatible wax/sealant and QDs.

I had a problem with my sprayer, it was too heavy of a stream. I made it mist more and swiped as soon as I sprayed it out. I didn't let it sit. It was sunny and I had no shade.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm probably doing everything wrong as described above. I know I'm putting down too much product because the MF does get damp quickly. I wonder if part of the problem is that I usually QD when its raining outside of my garage, or late at night when the humidity is especially high. In both these situations, I tend not to apply a new coat of wax or sealant as the conditions are not ideal for that. I guess the key is too use even less QD than normal, and use several MFs to buff out.

To answer the question on what is on the car, I have Natty's over Zaino on one car, and PS over WG on the other.
