QD between coats of SG

Last night I did a full detail and stopped after the first coat of SG. I drove it today for about 30 minutes, and QD'd it once it was back in the garage to remove the minor road grime...didn't feel like washing it again.

My 24 hour cure time is coming up here in about an hour, so will it be okay to throw on another coat of SG after QDing with EF Clear Pearl (has carnuba properties I think)?

Or should I just stay with the one coat of SG that I've got and move on to the P21S Paste?

TIA:xyxthumbs

Well I think someone emailed CMA and they said it didn't actually contain carnauba. I think you should be ok to add another coat of SG IMO.

Consider using SONUS as a QD with the Klasse twins - it is AIO/SG friendly. Works nicely with UPP as well. 3 layers of SG is about the point of maximum return and after that try UPP - super slickery finish. I haven't tried layering SG & UPP, but have layered SG & SONUS as well as UPP & SONUS. See my WooHoo thread in Click & Brag for a PIX, albeit not a Scottwax quality, but you can see the results.

ThreeSixT- I'm on the other side of the coin from Greg on this one. Whenever I use EFCP (just did, in fact), I get the feeling that whatever it leaves behind would compromise the bonding of SG. It's just a "feeling", but I've used both those products a LOT over the years, and I wouldn't mix them. Sorry, but *IMO* you oughta do the wash. Better safe than sorry. So consider both my opinion and Greg's and flip a coin or something :D

*I* find that 5 is the optimal number of SG layers. I agree with Gonzo that appearance-wise 3 is about the point of diminishing returns, but for me, the extra layers give enough added protection (you can actually FEEL it on the vehicle) to be worth it.

Oh, and about P UPP, I love it on the exterior (black and gray) plastic on Audis. Clean with AIO, then apply P UPP. I sorta like BFII even better for this, but I always treat such surfaces this way instead of using an External Vinyl Rubber (ERV) dressing.

Accumulator- I really wonder if we make too big of deal about bonding issues with QD sprays. I mean in reality it is just mostly water, alcohol with some other "stuff" in it and we wipe it right off. I get paranoid about it too, but is it really plausible to think that this water mixture will inhibit chemical bonding?

Accumulator, I had the same "feeling" so I just went ahead with P21S last night. I'm not too worried about durability at this point becasue I just ordered the 1Z line and a PC, so the car will be re-detailed in another month or two anyway...so one coat of SG should be fine. I'm gonna re-apply P21S Paste every few weeks, or every other wash until I get around to it.

Remember???..this was just a "for the time being" detail for my photo shoot.

Oh, and I have a full body kit, no plastic trim on this bad boy

;)

Greg- Yeah, I agree that the whole "bonding" issue is WAY overblown. But I DO make an exception with the EFCP/SG. The only QDs I would've used in that case are FI or Sonus. I'm sure others (BF, P, Zaino, and others I'm forgetting) would PROBABLY work fine too, but I'm just very (overly?) cautious about stuff interfering with SG. EFCP isn't like Griot's SS, but it still leaves a fair amount of SOMETHING on the paint.

Heh heh, I think we're so close in our opinions on this that we aren't really even agreeing to disagree!

ThreeSixT- Yeah, I wondered if you were doing a different car or something. I guess *I* would just be SO paranoid about marring Audi blue that I'd be layering it WAY deep in SG :D

Full body kit, huh? Heh heh, you young guys :D  One of the shops I patronize (EuroCar Service/ECS Tuning) would love it.
