PVA Sponges

OK, I dont know if this has been asked b4 but here goes. On Steve's website, it says the PVA lifetime sponges are machine washable. Is this true? Do you think I could wash them in hot water together with my MF towels?

Thanks in advance,

Jag

I throw them in the washer all the time..I usually wash them with my rags.

John if it's getting hard, it's just drying out..some people store them that way and then put them under warm water before use to soften them up again..

A little water will soften it right up! Mine is hard as a rock right now. After I washed it I thought I had ruined it...something told me if it was ruined a little water couldn't hurt it...I was pleasantly surprised to find it was good as new.

I'll have to order a few more of these soon!

That's exactly what I do. :)

I wash mine in the washing machine after each use. After the final rinse I place it back in the baggie damp.

I normally wash my PVAs by hand in warm water using Dawn dishwashing liquid. However, I did try machine washing one of my PVAs just to see how it would fare. It came out of the washer in perfect condition. :)

When you wash them in the Washing Machine, do you just throw them in with your M/F's, or do they need to be done separately? I'm assuming you would also try to "flush" excess product out with water, before putting them in the washer so as not to "wax the washer"?

Yes, I always hand rinse towels and applicators prior to placing them in the washing machine. I do this to remove the bulk of the products, so there is less chance of cross-contamination in the machine. The only exception to this is for my waffle weave drying towels since they were only "contaminated" with water. When I washed my PVA, I just threw it in with my cotton towels. At the time, I was more concerned about the PVA shredding and ruining my microfiber towels than I was about cotton lint ruining the PVA. In the end, my fears proved unfounded.

Thanks, AWD330 - so based on your experience with the PVA's in the washer, would you think it "safe" to put them in with the M/F's on "permanent-press" cycle after a good and thorough rinsing, and then let them air-dry. I never have a load of "car" cotton towels as I just have one or two that I use to buff the BnB off the spare tire cover.

I've only machine washed my PVA once, so I don't have a wealth of experience on this subject. However, they seem durable enough to withstand repeated washings. Placing them in with a load of MF towels should work. Give it a try, and let us know. I also vacillate between storing the PVAs moist or letting them air dry. I haven't decided which way I prefer yet. Letting them dry out avoids a potential mold problem, but keeping them moist makes them ready to go right out of the baggie.

I put my big cotton chenille wash mitts in the same load of laundry as my cotton buffing towels. I place my rinsed towels and mitts into plastic bags (one for MF and one for cotton) and save them up until I have enough for a reasonably sized load of laundry.

Well, I washed a bunch of my MF towels along with one PVA sponge. It seemed to clean the sponge up nicely. The only thing that I noticed is that some of the blue and green from my towels must have bled into the sponge, changing the color of it a bit.

I would still assume that this is OK to use however. If any of you think it will would harm the paint on the vehicles I have please let me know.

Thanks. :)

Jaguar,
Thanks for the update! Guess that's what I'll do in the future, unless I hear otherwise.

You are very welcome Norah. Give it a shot, I think you will like the results. :)
