any final words of advice ? :D

thanks

eh just wash and spray some z6 on it.....it'll be good....you can change waxes when you get fed up with the swirls and want to start over.....

I think MP posted something about a mini cooper that had a multiple layers of Zaino on it. He then put 2 coats of NXT on it and said the Zaino was gone.

I wonder how he could tell that? Unless he only did a few panels and the gloss dropped off?

In response to the comments at showcargarage:

Okay, everyone seems to agree NXT looks great. But what about durability? Many posts have been about poor durability. If I have a dark colored car I would want to stick with Zaino for it's great UV protection from fading. I have multiple coats of Zaino on my vehicle, and the beading and slickness is amazing. When I only had NXT on my vehicle, it looked unbelievable, but there was no beading after a couple of rains, and any slickness was gone. It also seems to have some cleaning ability, which may prevent layering. Someone from Meguiars said in a previous post, that this wax\sealant was made for the layman, to give their car a great look without having to do any real prep work.

I too applied NXT over several coats of zaino and it looks good.

I will probably stick with the NXT during the summer but go back

to 3-4 coats of zaino before winter sets in. I have seen nothing

that lasts through salt and touchless washes (winter stinks) like Zaino.

Now if Zaino would come out with a product that really fills scratches (I'm not that impressed with Z5) then they'll get me again year 'round.

I've been using Zaino now for a couple years.I liked the results on my Indigo Blue Envoy, and I too felt it got me through winter about as good as anything. But having used the last of my Z5 on my Black Avalanche I just don't seem to get the look I want from Zaino on Black. So today I picked up some NXT(real hard to find) and I'm going to put it over the Zaino and see if there's a big difference between the two.I'm also concerned about durability and layering the NXT.I also got some of the Booster Wax to go with it.:nixweiss

Could someone point me at the NXT durability threads that indicate that it doesn't last? Because somehow they've passed me right by.

I own Zaino, and I've used Zaino, but I don't like Zaino. It locks you away from using other products since it's so picky about bonding (alledgedly). Zainio on a dark car, is pointless in my opinion. Adding Zaino to my black Miata didn't do anything for the shine that the prepwork didn't already do. There's no darkening or richness to it.

But I actually do like Zaino. I like it on my wife's car which I also like to neglect and wash maybe once a month. Her car is silver and the Zaino really makes it pop.

From what I've read, properly applied NXT lasts a long time. People who say it wears off in two washes, heck, my S100 doesn't wear off in two washes, and it's a carnauba.

One of those posts on poor durability was mine . . .

I'm pretty sure the NXT was "properly applied" (I followed the directions :nixweiss). No slickness and no beading after two weeks of salty winter weather. I managed to get a couple of washes in during those two weeks, and on my car, it was pretty much toast after those two washes. On top of that, dirt clung more tenaciously to the sides of my car than with any other LSP that I've used.

I can't explain the results, but I've got too many other sealants/waxes that work better for me, so to the back of my shelf it goes.

No protectant really adds greatly to the UV protection of your clearcoat for more than a few days. These agents are sacrificed in a matter of days if not hours after exposure to UV radiational energy. No different than a skin applied sunscreen. You may not have jumped in the pool or ocean but you still need to re-apply if you are exposured to UV rays for more than several hours.

Great selling points but no "long- term "UV protection provided. :wavey

BTW, that Blue cooper owner has since switched back to Zaino (or so I've heard) because he was too dissatisfied with NXT's durability. Don't quote me on that though.... I'm just restating what I've heard through the Zealot-vine...

Postwood, there have been a lot of threads talking about questionable durability with NXT. And yes, I get better durability from products like P21S and Meguiar's #26. But on the other hand, there are also plenty of folks who do not have durability issues with it.

Montoya, if your car isn't all that swirled and your paints in great condition, I'm sure you'll be fine just applying a coat or two of NXT right on top of your Z layers....especially if you decide to apply it via PC.

OK...one question that I've found many answers to is how long to wait to put on the second coat of NXT.I just want to insure total coverage of NXT by doing a second coat.I've read anywhere from 30 min. to 24 hrs.

Hi everyone,

I'm the Cooper owner that "supposedly switched back to Zaino", and I'm here to set the record straight. Whoever you heard that from, you might as well tell them that you heard it from the actual owner that they need to get their facts straight. When I was first introduced to NXT, the reasons for switching were obvious. My Indi Blue paint looked deeper and darker after 1 coat. Of course, me being a newbie to detailing, I just thought it had that same slick feeling as Zaino and was quite a bit less expensive (not to mention smelling better). It took me several months of being immersed into the detailing world, and participating in several full detailing sessions where I began to really appreciate what NXT can do for paint. I'll be the first to admit, when I got my Cooper back in September, I didn't know the first thing to properly take care of my paint. I did all the typical things (i.e. mistakes) that beginners do. I didn't know how important good micro fiber towels were, and couldn't understand why I kept seeing scratches in my clear coat everytime I dried my car. Heck, I didn't even know how to tell the difference from a scratch in the clear coat and something deeper. I'd never seen it before. Zaino was highly touted on the MINI forums as the product to get (I spent $80+ for the kit). My car--only 11 days old, but 4,551 miles (I drove it from Memphis to Los Angeles) had seen everything--big ugly sticky hard bugs in Alabama, to locusts, to crazy huge yellow explosive insects that plastered my windshield minutes after washing it clean. My car was a mess, so I clay barred it, and spent 2 full weekends applying 12 coats on my car. I thought it looked pretty darn good--of course I worked hard to make it look that way. It had that new shiny car gloss again, and laying a terry towel on the bonnet, just slid right off. Neat, so I thought.

Fast forward to 2 months later. I'm at my first Meguiars Detailing clinic, and I get introduced to the PC DA and NXT. Wow, not only is it fun, it's a heck of a lot less work, and my paint looks even better. Better yet, that was 1 coat of NXT! So 5 months later, I'm still using NXT, I got my own DA, and I buy 32OZ bottles of Quik Detailer every few weeks cause I like that shiny new car look--requires me to wipe off my car every day, not to mention using it on my white wheels--to get off the brake dust.

Do I worry about durability? If I had known what I know now about my paint, I would have started with NXT from day one, and would be DAing every month--though I know I don't need to. Layering Zaino seems like a good idea, but I also know every coat I do, which Zaino needs, I risk putting scratches in my paint. I'd much rather reduce the risk, us a DA and NXT once. Anyone who knows me personally knows I like keeping my Cooper shiny--they always walk up to my car to feel it. Plain and simple, NXT lets me keep it that way and not worry about it from day to day.

Whoops!

I sent OctaneGuy an e-mail asking him if he changed before I posted the below reply because I got caught up in posting another thread to MeguiarsOnline.com about a Porsche event I was at today.

356 Porsche Tech Session in San Luis Obispo

Here's what I meant to post before I sent OctaneGuy an e-mail asking him whether he switched, and either way, if he would respond to this thread.

************

I'll check with OctaneGuy and see what he says. In fact I just send him this link and asked him to respond either way which wax he still prefers on his Mini. He came by the Garage the night I was working on the black Viper for the Viper event and said nothing to me about switching back to Zaino.

It was kind of funny, that night in the Garage I had the following people that previously used Zaino on their cars,

Hey Intermezzo...

Are you going to make it to the Autopia Detail Day at Meguiar's?

OctaneGuy, congrats on your car. Looks like you've settled on a regimen that works very well for you. Also, thanks for setting the record straight....I was just relaying info, but I was obviously misinformed. I'm sure the person who told this to me has or will read this thread.... Boy, nothing gets people to act faster than posting a false rumor! lol
