Protecting Rims From Brake Dust???

I did a Mazda Miata this past weekend and the rims were ruin from the brake dust. I got them clean beatifully but I was wondering what I can put on them to help protect the rims for future?

They are silver painted aluminum rims and at one time looked to have been clear coat but that seems to be long gone. They feel rough on the surface. Thats why I didn't wax them. Any ideas?

You could possibly clean them real well and than clean with a pre-paint de-greaser. After this cleaning, paint the rim with a clearcoat wheel paint that can be found at most automotive stores. After several very thin coats (4-5 ) allow to dry and protect with a sealant ( Zaino,Klasse, Meg #20, etc).

Hope this helps. :D

I use klasse on my rims (2 layers of SG) to protect them. Brake dust washes off much easier after applying the SG, and the rims were very smooth after going over them with AIO.

You could also look into some low dust brake pads. :up

"after using something like Klasse..."
