Protectants with plasticizers are bad? Vinylex too?

I heard that some protectants with plasticizers dry out vinyl, plastic and rubber, because similar materials dissolve each other.

As far as I know, the only protectant with plasticizers is Vinylex. Did anyone hear that Vinylex damages vinyl, rubber and plastic?

Ive heard that the petroleum distilates from armor-all will wreak vinyl surfaces in cars by causing cracking or something. Id like to hear about vinylex though.

I saw it on the Meguiars web:

"Protectants- Will they crack my dash?

All Meguiar's protectants are safe and do not contain plasticizer agents which is what causes cracking. For our best protection, use our NXT Tech Protectant."

Below is from Vinylex web:

"It actually penetrates below the surface layer to nourish and revitalize underlying plasticizers, there by reducing cracking."

As I remember, the Vinylex bottle label also tells about replenishing plasticizers.

I saw no other protectant that claims to replenish plasticizers.

I saw some waxes or polishes that claims to replenish nutritive oils to paint finishes: Zymol Cleaner Wax, The Wax Shop, Meguiars, etc.

Virtuallly all protectant have some petroleum distillates, I guess. These include water based protectants such as Armor All Original protectant, Meguiars Natural Shine, and so on.

Meguiars NXT protectant is an oil based protectant. So it has more petroleum distillates.

I used Vinylex for a long time before going with Protectant 303. Vinylex has a good reputation and I never had, or heard of, a problem with it drying out anything it was applied to.

Does anybody know anything more about this? Lexol has a great rep so I assumed Vinylex did too, but this worries me.

That is why I posted the question. Furthermore, the worry is based on a reputable source (Meguiars, Inc.).

I talked with a Meguiars customer service representative over the phone. He said that Meguiars is saying that Vinylex cracks dash board. He did not know any other protectants containing plasticizers.

According to the email reply from Lexol, we are guaranteed to have no problem with Vinylex. He added that those who sell inferior products rely on scare tactics.

No offense, but the Meguiars reps are there to sell you meguiars products. On more than one occassion I have been left lesss than assured of the information they gave me. I would not go to a Meguiars rep for any information regarding anything other than Megs. And even then you have to take it with a grain of salt.

I have used Vinylex on the same vehicle for 6 1/2 years (sort of a long range test). The door seals are like new and so is the dash. So the stuff protects for at least 6 1/2 years. :D

Amen to that. Been using Vinylex for the past 6 years w/o a problem.

I am a Vinylex user and I think it works very well and has a nice smell. I apply it generously with a terry wax applicator taking care to rub it in well. I do the entire car and then go back to where I started first and buff with an MF towel. Leaves to greasy residue and the finish is matte(if applied properly). 303 is also an excellent product.
