Protectant for black interior?

I have a black/black VW and I like the results I am getting just using water and a rag to wipe down the black interior. I don't like the protectants that leave a shinny look. Everytime I use these type of agents I can see uneven spots where the solution didn't penetrate/or on areas I missed. Any sugestions? I would continue using water, but I don't know if it's best.

Thanks

Where can I get this 303 stuff? Local retail store? Does it clean & protect leather/plastic?

I agree, if you're to use a protectant, go with a product from a reputable company like 303. The problem with many popular, home-company-type, low-gloss dressings, is that we have no proof it offers any UV protection. As you said, water alone can make your dash look good. Many low-gloss dressings could be just that, with a little fragrance or color.

:up 303

Blue Magic vinyl cleaner is my recommendation. It cleans and protects but does not leave a shiny finish. Does not have petroleum or silicone in it.

I'm rapped wit it's ease of use and it takes every stain you can think of off

I like 303 but I also have to recommend Poorboys Natural Look. It will leave your interior with a matte finish and it also smell nice.

303 is very good. I've also used the 1Z vinyl protectant with good results. It's a bit glossier than 303, but looks great.

I think YoSteve likes Black Magic's Dash Protectant Semi-Gloss on his Passat. I can't seem to find the thread on it, but check it out.

I like to apply 303 with a foam pad. A few sprays onto the pard directly, then apply to your surface. It allows for a very thin, and even layer. This is aids in buffing, and saves product. With this method, a bottle of 303 goes a loooooooong way.

I prefer microfiber for removal. Any high quality brand should be good enough for interior work.

Good luck.

I like to use a foam pad for my vinyl dressings as well. I find that it gives more control over how much dressing i'm using, making it easier to do even coats. Also, foam pads conserve the amount of dressing you're using because it is not absorbing up all of the fluid like a towel.

Most boat supply stores in your area will carry 303.

Also, I would only use 303 on older leather, such as five years and older. The 303 will help to prevent cracking and drying as it helps to protect against the harmful UV rays of the sun.

On newer cars I prefer to follow most car company reccomendations and only wipe the leather with a clean damp cloth.

p.s. I really like that idea of using a foam pad for application.

~One man’s opinion, observation~

I’d second the advice for the use of 303 as a UV protectant, you might want to wash with a 6:1 Woolite/Water solution

~Hope this helps~

A fellow Passat owner and with black leather interior! I use 303 on the interior of my Passat at least every 6 weeks, it really brings it to life with a rich, deep black finish. First, I wipe down all the vinyl and plastic with a solution of Dawn and water, and then wipe down with water dampened MF towel. After letting it all dry, I apply 303 with a foam applicator and let it soak in for a couple of minutes then I buff dry with another MF towel.

For my leather I usually just clean with a water dampened MF towel and then apply 303. At least twice a year I'll deep clean and condition with Lexol. For in between cleaning I've got some einszett Lederpfledge that I'll use. I want to try out the Woolite solution when I use up my Lederpfledge! I wouldn't hesitate to use the 303 on my leather seats, it works beautifully. There is a bit of a shine let but it isn't glossy at all. I like the peace of mind I get, I know that I'm protecting my BLACK interior from sun fading.

Just a few comments to conclude:

I wouldn't rely on 303 as a cleaner. I think it might have a mild cleaner in it but always do the cleaning yourself that way you know it's clean to begin with.

You may notice some blotchy spots after a bit of time, especially around the glove compartment, seems that area just soaks it up. Usually it will buff out and be fine. Other than the mentioned area, I don't notice any blotchiness on the dash or seats.

Check out www.303products.com for all the information you could need on 303. There is a lot of info on application and the like. Here is the link on 303 use on leather, http://www.303products.com/techinfo/leather/leather.htm.

Good luck and enjoy the Passat:)
