Personally on bumpers (especially front) I would ask the body shop to use a ceramic clear. I know PPG makes one called Ceramiclear DC4125. Last time I checked it was $80 a qt and $40 for the activator. Basically $120 for 3 pints of sprayable material. It is the same clearcoat applied to the Mercedes. It's pretty stone and scratch resistant. As for your current issue I would say stick with a glaze. You don't want anything that is going to really bond and seal the paint. As stated most manufacturers say wait 90 days before waxing. It's a good idea to keep a qd in your car to do a quick wipedown before the bugs have a chance to etch in also.
