Project Has Arrived!

BLUELINE 1

Protect and Shine
I got this car from a friend today. It's a 1996 Ford Thunderbird, and it is going to need a lot of TLC. It only has minor engine problems, but needs lots of cleaning. This car has been parked outside taking a beating from the weather. My plan is to start cleaning it next week and was thinking it will probably take two full days to get it looking good again. I haven't decided on what process I will use yet. After it is cleaned up I will decide to either keep it or sale it don't know yet. I took these pics today.

looks like I will be busy all weekend!

Yeah I don't know if I can save that carpet. It's in bad shape. I will try some diffrent things, and if they don't work I may try dye. I'm sure I can bring the paint back to life. It just needs about every thing I got in the closet. I've never worked with that color, so I don't know what to go with yet.

Thanks for those links Richard. Those prices are not as high as I thought. After seeing that carpet that was the first thing that came to mind, new carpet. I just can't believe people let thier cars get in this shape, but now its mine, so I have to get it back to par. I'm hoping a good cleaning will do the job, but thats a lot of hoping.

Your welcome and I have purchased carpet from the first place and I would suggest if you do it to spend and additinal 50.00 and get the upgraded mass backing carpet which is closer to the stock carpet with a rubber backing. Either way you cannot go wrong as both sell good carpet. You will have to call them for that option though no online ordering for the mass backing upgrade.

Thats going to be a nice car when your finished with it. I worked alot on those cars when i worked for ford. That color can really pop with a few coats of paste. It looks like your only problem is gonna be with that carpet. If it were me i wouldn't even waste my time cleaning if your thinking of keeping the car. I'd just replace it. I've heard great things from the first link that 97F1504x4 posted. Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.

How many miles are on it? By the condition of the seats it looks to be under 100k which for a car that old is awesome.

Yes I'm thinking new carpet too. There is 102,000 on it, and yes I was suprised that the seats were in that good of shape. I will post some pics as I work on it.

Just a word of warning on detailing the engine. I would either remove the two coil packs so that you do not get water in them or at the very least cover them up very good. Once these things get wet they start shorting out and having major misfire problems. The coil packs are the two items on the left and right that have the spark plug wires attached to them just in case you weren't sure. Also be very aware of water getting down into the plug holes themselves where the wires go. When water gets in there it also cause issues.

Folex MIGHT takecare of the carpet, or you could take it out and pressure wash it from the backside out and then all over. Works rather well. I've seen carpet dirtier than that come clean.

I'm almost done and will post some pics. I justed noticed that all of the pics I've posted using photobucket are no longer here. Does anyone know how or why this could have happend. Not just on this thread but all of them.

Either the site has deleted them or you have deleted them. At least that has been my experience. I was in Photobucket kind of trimming the fat when I noticed on some of my posts that the pictures were gone.

Have you been to photbucket lately to do anything or than uploading? Just wonderin....

I think the problem is I made a sub-album for my detailing pics, and I moved all of my past pics to that album. My guess is I lost my direct link. I didn't think I would lose pics that were already posted, but it looks like I thought wrong.

It's because the URLs are now changed because of the sub group deal. You could edit or repost the pictures with the new URLs though

Ya if you moved them off the main site them the pictures are not hosted any more. Glad that you found the problem.

Photobucket is a great site for a techno foob like me.
