$$profit$$dealers$$

Private customers will bring in the most money. I try to not work for dealers because they tend to be ultra cheap and want everything for not much money. They also normally expect unrealistic turn-around times and normally only send trashed vehicles. I will say that when the market was good about 4-5 years ago, I had a local Ford dealer who was getting far more trades then his 2 man recon dept could keep up with, so the dealer started sending ALL the excess to me and they were willing to pay realistic prices. That was very nice. Those days are over. Most dealers can keep up with their trades using in-house recon, which they pay very little per vehicle.

very true. That's also why most dealers now arn't moving cars very much. Dealers here still have the same cars on the lot that were there months ago. Nobody wants a car that isn't well taken care of and the dealership staff blows. They just hire hacks at $8hr hand them a rotary with a 5 yr old wool pad, compound and some dirty soap water and say get to work.

Gotta pay to play. Realistically nobody works for free and if they want a hack job i guess they'll keep the cars.

Dealer work can be profitable but you need to be able to do a lot of volume to really make any money doing it. Either way if you can do straight retail for work it is FAR more profitable per job and a lot less stress.

I agree with Shine!!!

if you can make the volume work, then volume is where its at to make tons of money in this industry. But, but you can get 20 cars a month all for some sort of correction work, then you will be ok with retail!

100% retail. As stated above, dealers want the world for nothing. I have worked with a few wholesale/retailers; there is a reason cliche's exist. I prefer the retail customer as you can really build longterm relationships. Plus I will take $80-$100 an hour for retail any day of the week. If you have the skills, there are always people with money looking for true value. Presentation is king!
