Good find PC. I never knew these existed. Do you happen to know their price points?

Coastal Tool sells the Hitachi SP18VA for $165.

Top of the Line has the Flex LK603VVB for $240.

The PC 7428 used to sell for around $200 through the discounters but was disco’ed when Black & Decker absorbed Porter-Cable. There were killer deals on them back when they were blowing out the residual stock. A number of guys got them for under a hundred bucks before the supply dried up.

Black & Decker got Flex in the Porter-Cable deal but didn’t want them so Flex spun off as an independent company and now has their own distribution network.

PC.

Holden_C04, what did you decide to get?

I am strongly considering the Flex 3403 L VRG. The other Flex rotary is simply too heavy for my application. I would never consider it.

Found a great deal/have a good deal on it? PM me. :)

Looking at you, Chris (eshine). ;)

Yeah, this competition was mostly between the Makita and this Flex. I couldn't find the Makita cheap enough. The one place had it for $119.99 refurb but out of stock. I found a Hitachi for $103.00 refurb but out of stock as well. Went to see what shipping was like at Coastal Tool for the Makita and it was $82.00. Powerhouse didn't ship ordinarily to Canada and the place was closed for the evening. That left Detailers Domain.

I just adore German engineering...

Holden, I've also been looking into something a little lighter than a rotary and I'm curious about your purchase. Did the free shipping apply to Canada as well? Will you save anything over buying it here if you get charged customs fees?

eShine doesn't have the 3403 on his site so there wasn't really an option to buy in Canada. I had to pay for shipping. We'll see if I get charged tax/duties. It's being shipped USPS.

Did you even contact eShine to see if Chris could get you that model? As he carries two other models I'm sure he could have checked it out for you. I guarantee that you will be paying customs fees as it's well over $200. Oh well, you live and you learn.

Yeah, I did. He would have had trouble competing because it costs a lot to import the Flex models so I'll just get the pads for it from him. It's being shipped USPS so I shouldn't get hit with brokerage charges.

I just popped an order for a 3403 as well on Monday from Phil. Should be here Friday. Thought that the similar size, weight and ergonomics as the 3401 would help with my transition into a rotary.

I love it. It's absolutely outstanding. It's everything a rotary could be. I don't know why anyone would use anything else (and that includes the Makita). It's wonderful to polish side panels because of it's light weight, lacks nothing for power, and feels and looks like a quality unit. It presents a more professional image than a Makita, too.
