Professional Detailing in the UK

I have been considering of late what career path might be on the horizon for myself as I'm getting very restless and loosing my sanity working in my current job.



One of the types of business that appels to myself and has cropped up in a few brainstormes is car washing/detailing.



Two paths are avaliable over here.



One would be the franchise route, with the likes of Autoglym ( sadly there customer service seems a tad poor to say the least, trying to get more information from them is like the old rock and blood situation ) .



The second and probably the better route would be to set up a small scale private business, thus giving me full control and probably financial gain.



Would anyone have any advice? Ive scoured the archives and search button but would like any updated advice and guidence.

Let me start by wishing you luck! I am not at all convinced there is any established professional detailing market in the UK. Sure there are plenty of wash and vacuum outfits but I don't think that many people would really consider spending serious amounts of money to have their cars detailed.



What sort of market research have you done? Somehow North Wales does not strike me as a region where there are lots of high end cars so you will be competing fairly directly with the wash and vacuum brigade - whats your market and competition?
