Product Review for: TouchUp 123

I'd like to hear more Autopian reviews on this product. My truck needs it badly, but I searched around a bit and found some liked it and others were not impressed.

I ordered this yesterday and hopefully get it in a couple of days. Will post a review on how it goes.

Very quick with the delivery, received the package today. Kinda shotty packaging re: the zip lock bag tho. But nevertheless, just have to find a free day to test it out.

anyone use it yet!!!!! :

I totally forgot about this thread, my car is pretty dirty right now - I'll snap a few pictures tomorrow morning before I go to work showing you some before and afters of the work. My pictures probably wont do it justice, but the product works great! and I am *very* happy with my purchase. Before application my front end was covered in rock chips/road rash and overall just gave it a really dull appearance, my front end actually shines with the rest of my car now that hundreds of tiny white specks aren't so obvious

Ok, I just finished using this product and I have to say that I am really disappointed. I followed the instructions to the "T" and I saw no difference in appearance.

Prepped a section with the FTC and smeared the color fill on to the problem spots/area. I even used a q-tip for the deep chips. Left it on there for a few minutes and then FTC'd it again to remove high spots. Nothing. Looked the same. Didn't fill the little marks/chips/scuffs at all. It actually took some of the color fill away/out of the spots.

Am I doing this all wrong?? I really want this to work but I feel "let down" :(

Sorry I don't have any pics (battery was dead).

How much color fill did you guys put on the blue towel? Although it said 2-3 drops, I found that a little too much because when I applied it to the area, it dried up so fast that it was kind of thick. So it made the FTC'ing part difficult.

Please, tell me how you guys did it.

I thought with the Langka system you actually used a clearcoat on top of the color...haven't seen any reference where it uses clearcoat. Does it fill the chip or just cover up the primer and still leave an indention in the paint?

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Mine was ordered on 7/2 but still has not yet shipped!!!!

Well, I got my kit last week. I'm pretty dissappointed. Essentially this kit is paint (with thinner) and Langka (with thinner). You rub the FTC on to clean off the area (after washing of course), then you spread the paint on (hoping it will catch in the chips) and then you use the FTC to wipe off the excess. What inevitably happens, is that the paint comes right back out of the chip.

Larger chips require the use of a q-tip or paint brush (included in the kit). I tried "the 1-2-3 process" on larger chips over and over but it just would not catch. All in all, I'm pretty dissappointed with the product.

Notice the three large chips

Notice the three large chips after. I had to hand detail them with the brush twice to get that outcome. None of the other micro-chips picked up paint during the 1-2-3 process. I tried twice.

Third pass, this morning. Same place.

Some of the chips it looks like you guys are trying to fill in look a little too big for this to fix or even cover up. However I find it weird that I had such good results, my paint did not come out of the chips when I FTC'd, how long are you guys letting the paint dry? I know it dries fas, but I still gave it around 5 minutes to let it cure and worked in a 2x2 section. After many washes and a detail on my car it still looks like it did the day I applied the Touch Up Paint.

@ 2002 Maxima SE: Those are the same reults I was getting. I did do another application a few days later and got somewhat favourable reults but I'm still not happy with it.

I think I'll try it again later and wait longer for the paint to cure as Joshua suggested.

when I used it I was able to improve on the chips but it did come out of a lot of the small road rash chips. I did have good luck with it on door edges, isolated larger hood chips and a long deep scratch. For that it was worth $30. It will improve the appearance of your car but don't expect miracles.

I read this on a car forum from some one who performed this in car sales lot:

Fill up the chip with paint, use small rubber squeege to even off the paint then use a small amount of adhesive remover on a clean rag to clean off the excess. I've tried it and it works just fine. Simple.

Sounds almost like this touchup 123 but with OE touchup paint.....I cant see filling EVERY knick and sanding ect....

do you have a diy link?

Mach30SiR,

Sorry no link, just remembering reading it awhile back and not longer after I started doing it myself. I guess if you have a significant amount of chips it would not work very well!

I do not trust myself with sand paper, maybe a wet real fine paper.

Hello,

I tried Touchup123 too and ... well ... went to repaint afterwards anyway (bumber).

Initially it looked promising. I did lower part of front bumber on my black TT three times and it hide maybe 80-90% of very small stone chips.

Then I went to other areas and the results were not quite so good anymore.

To my experience it works if the chip's diameter is smaller than depth and it still needs to be way smaller than 1mm. There is absolutely no filling ability - just change the color. If the bottom of chip is white it will hide it but still very visible from 1-2 feet away. In black it seemed that the final color was reached after one day - so it looked little better at the morning when applied day before.

But what disappointed me most was that it came off after polishing the car?!?

But for a $30 I suppose it has it's place.
