COME AT ME BRO
Thanks to Dwayne and the guys at AutoGeek, I received a bunch of the new Detailer’s Pride (DP) products to try out. First up is the DP Auto Bath Shampoo. On my personal vehicles I have been using 4* Ultimate Auto Shampoo, so if I seem like I am comparing the DP shampoo to anything, I guess it would be the 4*. Hope this review can help get the word out or answer a couple of questions for the DP line.
Packaging: Packaged in a white 8 ounce bottle with a wrap-around type label. Nothing flashy, but the label states what the product is and contains directions and warnings and so forth. Also, a nice flip top dispenser is easy to open and squirts out the shampoo relatively easy.
Price: $9.95 USD for 32 ounces of product. That’s $.31 USD per ounce. There's also a larger size that's $24.95 USD for 128 ounces of product. That's $.19 USD per ounce.
Directions: The directions state to pour 1-2 ounces of Auto Bath Shampoo into a bucket and generate suds with a strong jet of water. There is no indication of the size of bucket to be used or how much water to add. Seeing as how I use a 5 gallon bucket, I used about 2 ounces of this to about 3 gallons of water. It does state to rinse the mitt often and wash from the top down, although there is no mention of anything advanced, such as the two bucket method or multiple mitts.
Cautions, Hints, etc: Standard caution about being harmful if swallowed and avoiding contact with eyes. There’s also a quick intro to the product where it states that the shampoo contains conditioning oils & gentle cleansing agents, and water softeners. States that it will not remove protective coatings (wax/sealant).
Ph Level: Unknown to me, but I am sure the kind folks at AutoGeek can let us in on it if we asked.
Product: The Auto Bath Shampoo is a thin, greenish gel. It has a slight scent that reminds me of an apple flavor. Just in case anyone is wondering, that's some staining in the white bucket. I left an aerosol can sitting in that bucket at some point and it stained it. I can't get it out, but I don't think it affects the wash solution in any way.
Usage: I poured about 2 ounces into a 5 gallon bucket and added approximately 3 gallons of water. It sudsed up pretty quickly, but it did not produce the amount of suds that I am used to with the 4*. This wasn’t really a big deal, as I have learned not to equate suds with cleaning ability.
After hosing down the vehicle to remove any loose debris, I proceeded to begin my wash routine. One thing I did to try and test the cleaning ability of the Auto Bath Shampoo was to clean bugs off the front of the vehicle without using my trusty Poorboy’s Bug Squash (which I am almost out of – hint, hint Steve… hurry up and get it in production!!!). I was pleasantly surprised as the Auto Bath Shampoo seemed to take a lot of the bugs off on the first gentle swipe. I let the shampoo sit on the front and moved on to the hood and windshield, where I noticed that this shampoo is pretty slick. It feels to have a lot of lubricity when the mitt is gently dragged over the finish. It cleaned the lightly dirty hood and windshield with ease. Now back to the front for the second swipe at the bugs. This second gentle swipe removed all but the most stubborn bugs. I finished getting the bugs off, and then moved on to the rest of the vehicle. I was surprised at the cleaning power on the rocker panels at removing some of the more noticeable dirt & grime. After completing the wash, I flood rinsed the vehicle. It rinsed pretty “dry” and I finished it off with a Big Blue MF (which PAC has on sale at the moment of this post). Rinsed clean, no water spots, I was pleased.
All in all, I think this shampoo is a nice product. I wouldn’t replace my personal stash of 4* with it, but I think it ranks right up there among my favorites. It has nice lubricity, a nice aroma, and very good cleaning ability. One thing some people might worry about is the conditioning oils that are mentioned on the label and adding another layer of sealant. I am not sure if this might cause some kind of issue with the durability or bonding of the sealant – again, that would be a question for the good folks at AutoGeek. I think Auto Bath Shampoo is a good wash to have in the arsenal, and using it makes me anxious to give the rest of the DP stuff I have a try. I hope to get most, if not all of it, reviewed ASAP, but I have a busy weekend coming up with some sod. Anyone wanna volunteer to help???

Here is a quick shot of after rinsing the suds. This is a fresh coat of UPP on the hood. About a week ago, I polished the top portions of the car with SSR1 and layed a coat of UPP. It beads pretty nicely, but overall the vehicle 's due for a good detail.
