Hi all,

I have a 2006 Mercedes E-Class. It has "acid rain" spots on the hood and roof. I have a PC, and I did 3 passes with Meguiars #2 on a section of the spots. It made no difference. You can't feel the spots, but in reflection it looks like white chicken pox.

So, is there a product that I can use with the PC that might make a difference? I have the time and elbow grease to stick with the PC, or am I just kidding myself and need a rotary?

If it looks like I need a rotary, what pad and compound would be your recommendation?

I did the rest of the car today with 1Z Paint Polish and it looks amazing. I'm following up with 1Z Polish Wax, Collinite #915, and DG AW once I (hopefully) fix the spots.

Re: Which pad: Griot's Orange. I've used Griot's for years, and have just discovered the wealth of products through Autopia. I'm planning a purchase of Lake Country Pads in the near future.

I suspect the clear coat is rock hard. On the other hand, the 1Z paint polish has made a HUGE difference in the gloss and color. I just don't have a reference point here. I'm dealing with a car that's new to me, and new products and methods to me from Autopia. I'm here to learn.

If it is indeed acid rain, good luck trying to remove it with a PC. Ive used some strong compounds on acid rain and it just smiles at you and doesn't budge.

I'd try Power Gloss, then 106FF if the haze isn't bad. If it is, I'd use SIP as an intermediate step. I hate to tell you to go out and buy those products, though. Water spots are hard to remove. You'll need a compound at least. This might be a good option, especially since you can buy it in 16 oz:

BLACKFIRE Scratch Resistant Clear Compound
