#16 would be better for long lasting protection but this has worked on cars that i have detailed :D

As far as I know 3M SMR products do not contain fillers.

John: I am almost certain that the 3M SMR's do contain fillers, in particular, mineral oils and glycerin. Check out the MSDS for SMR at 3M.com.

There have been questions as to whether or not AIO would remove the fillers from 3M SMR?

Is there a product that I can apply prior to the AIO that definitely would not be removed from AIO?

And would I use #16 in place of SG, or in addition to it?

Thanks,

Craig

cjkbme2w, I have a near new bottle of 3M smr for dark I'll sell you for 6.00 shipped...do you have Paypal?

e-mail me at dwcopple#yahoo.com

I hope this isn't against forum rules.

I have since tried the following setup:

NXT Car Wash

Dried with CWB and Pakshak WW

Mother CA Gold Clay

Color X applied with Pakshak MF

NXT Wax applied with Pakshak MF

QD with EOWS

Though I don't have a photo, the dark blue color on the car

has never looked so rich before.

I am probably going to switch things around a little to use Sonus clay and AIO instead of Color X.

Thx

As for the bug:

I don't know what happened, but when I saw how good

my car can look, it made me feel more excited driving it

and parking it at work (where it looks better than anyone

elses car).

I think that this will become my new hobby, and I want to thank

Dave B. for putting up this website.

Of course, I may go to the poorhouse as a result.

Thx

Well, this will offend many of the Autopia purists, but if you want bang-for-the-buck, pick up a bottle of the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax in the red bottle for about $5 at WalMart or Target or just about anywhere else. It's my standby quick and easy one-step product. Just keep it off the trim, it will stain.

Be careful of the 3 step Meguiar's wax, it dries white and shows any missed wax badly.

Tight budget:

1. $20 - A good all purpose cleaner by the gallon.

With multiple spray bottles, you can dilute it accordingly and have a tire & wheel cleaner, vinyl cleaner, carpet cleaner, degreaser, bug/tar remover etc.

2. $30 - 2 waffle weave MF towels + 1 in-car duster MF (I keep one in the car for dusting at red lights) + 6 MF for waxing, product removal etc

3. $30 Final Step Product: Either a good wax or sealant

Zaino Z2 + ZFX, Klasse, Poorboys EX-P, No. 16 etc.

4. ~$50 Polishes and Glazes

Vanilla Moose, Speed Glaze, No. 9 or Swirl Free Polish, 1Z MP/PP etc.

5. $20 Shipping

Hope that helps. It at least shows that you don't need to resort to Mother/Meguiars 1-2-3 etc. if you are interested in using some very high quality boutique type products.

Thanks for the info Paco.

I think that I am going to return the Color X and NXT, and change to AIO and #16. I have been told by Accumulator that a very good combination prior to AIO is

3M PI II (39002) for the scratches

3M PI III MG (39012) for the polish

I have a gallon of 303 Aerospace Protectant, which seems to

be useful on everything.

Careful with those 3M products and it's dusting. Many of the 3M's products are can be harmful if injested and should be used with a dust mask minimally.

I'd be more inclined to use Meguiars product myself.

I didn't know that about the dusting.

But, would that not be a problem for other products

that remove tiny shredy of paint.

Apparently a filler product is not recommended before AIO.

The AIO will then just remove the fillers, and the swirls will

appear again.

Well, I started on a tight budget, but now I guess that

I have spent a lot more than that.

Here is my current regimen (in order) based on all the research that I have done. Please let me know if I have any holes and if this looks sensible.

2004 Dark Blue Jetta

P21S Car Wash

1Z Bug Cleaner

Sonus Clay

Sonus Paintwork Cleanser

AIO

P21S wax

QD- Pinnacle Crystal Mist

303 Aerospace Protectant as a cleaner & UV

protectant for rubber, vinyl, leather, tires

and wheels.

Leather Cleaner- Woolite Method 1/6 dilution

Leather Conditioner- Zaino Z10
