Problem Claying

Hi guys,

I'm having some issues claying our X5, which is full of contaminants. I've tried both Zaino and Clay Magic and cannot remove the little embedded rust spots. It would take me all day to fully clay this vehicle. Any advice? Should I try a decontamination kit? A more aggressive clay?

Thanks! :xyxthumbs

Are you sure they are rust spots and not overspray?(have you painted house/biz or have neighbors since last major detail?)are they on 1 side more than the other?are they on there uniformally? these are questions i am asking myself.....you could step up to "RED CLAY" but beware, that stuff can cause HEAVY MARRING. Good Luck

Where at in Michigan are you? I can always take a look at it for you and see what's going on. I've done quite a few X5's they generally clean up quite well.

If there bits are rust etc. then the decon kit would be great. I have seen the FK one used on a white MX5 and the results were great!

silvergray-If Jakerooni is remotely convenient to you I'd sure have him look at it.

Otherwise, yeah...this sounds like a perfect candidate for decontamination and the sooner the better (the rust specs are getting worse by the minute and can get to the unfixable point if you wait too long). Just follow the directions and you'll do fine with the decon. The first time I *ever* use that stuff (AutoInt's "ABC") was on my beloved S8, a vehicle I did *NOT* want to mess up...everything went fine. Yeah, the X5 is bigger, but the second vehicle I did was my minivan, and that (big) thing went OK too.

I'm located in Farmington if that is anywhere near you...

PM me if you are in the area and want me to look at it. I've dealt with quite a bit of this stuff, not sure if it is from our location or what.

Very noticable on white vehicles. I'm starting to think it is brake dust.!?

I dunno...I've seen the rust-blooms on areas that don't make me think "brakes", areas like the roof of vehicles that don't have 'em anywhere else. Ferrous contamination can come from all sorts of sources. Doesn't really matter I guess as the solution is the same (clay and/or the acidic step of the decon system).
