hi,
i'd like to know what's the general opinion about pricing a job and what it will include. for example: washing, vacuum and waxing a 4 dr car vs a full size truck. a brand new car vs a car with many light scratches. for the professional detailers, do you have a set price list or price according to the job?

I basically have a set price list as far as "Basic Washes". I charge $20 for cars, small trucks and $30 for large trucks, vans and suvs. My basic package includes, wash-vac-clean and dress tires-windows in/out-wipe down interior panels-fragrance. A full detail varies from car to car. Full size trucks, vans, suvs will be more.
 
As far as a wash and wax I run specials throughout the year and offer qucik details for $50 and then they go up from there as much as $250 or maybe more.
 
Never have a "set" price. There will be a day where you get a total s#!t box where you'll regret ever doing it. I'm varrying my price depending on the area and condidtion of the car. Around here you're lucky to get $100/car, in the suburbs I've found average price to be $200+. Have some base prices set and go up from there.
 
Your best bet is do some shopping, beit internet or in person....Look at sites and see what they offer, and for how much, you will get more info doing that than by asking on DC. Nothing negative about DC, just may provide you with answers quicker!
 
I base all my prices off an hourly rate that is $25.00 the larger or dirty cars require more time. Its in the estamte that I give before the work. I also leave a range of 50 bucks just in case I run inot things that I have missed
 
i have a price list that is based on a mid-size car. i'm trying to determine how much more a full size truck would be in comparison to a car. since i have a brochure, i need to clarify the difference to the customer without scaring them away. i'd say there's aprox a $25 increase for a bigger vehicle that's not too bad. of course i need to take into account the paint condition.
 
I average $175 for sedans, and $225 for SUVs. Many variables apply.

I charge extra for BLACK vehicles. Any body else?

(BTW, local Mercedes dealer charges $250 for black sedans, and requires TWO days!)

Sure, once you think you've prepped the paint, AutoMagic's #76 GS-1. Use the PC with a white (final) foam pad SLOWLY. Then apply your LSP.

Good Lighting, from several angles, helps.

i agree with shotime need to look at the vehicle check its condition then price accordly
 
I base my pricing on what I want to make a hour then price accordingly. So if it takes you 1 hour to do a sedan how long will it take you for a large suv/truck. $25 a hour maybe to start. if a large truck will take you 2.5 hours to do with very light wash scratches than you can charge $62.50 just for you labor and then add chemical costs. It is a good way to base your prices. Your hourly rate desired may be different I ONLY USED $25/HR AS A GUIDE FOR YOU. Good luck

been getting lots of very useful info. thanks all for posting. I'm definitely getting a better idea on how to fine tune my estimates.
