I am by no means a pro detailer (or photographer) -
just like to keep my New Jetta shiny.
Its just over a year old and in that time I have lurked at this site and others
trying to find the best combo of products that will give my PlatniumGrey MK5
the clear wet look that I see so often in the posts here.
I've tried a variery of products and like the look that they give but
as many of you am always looking for that something more.
I started w/ a Poorboy's regimen ProPolish/EXP/Natty's and then Natty's Blue
Then I slowly got into the FK line last year replacing Natty's w/ Pink Wax First
then I settled into the 2180/Pinkwax maintaining with the 425 QD.
I really like this combo!
When winter came I replaced Pinkwax with Collinite IW
and made it to spring with minimal marring but wanted to try something new for the spring.
I saw the great results you all were getting with Jeff's stuff so I decided to give it a try.
The rain stopped here in VA this morning so I decided to get the PC out and
strip off the FK.
I got the Prime Strong as I figured it would be best suited to get the multiple layers of 2180/Pink off so I could start with a fresh base for the spring. Some wash induced marring on the trunk but the car is only a year old so the paint was in good condition.
A dime of Prime Strong/ white pad made quick work of the micromarring on the trunk but a must have used to much/or worked to long on the roof as I got dusting everywhere!
Once the pad was moist and I had better control of the amount of product I needed
I got very little dust on the side panels and hood.
After this step I sat down and admired. It seemed wetter and a bit clearer than 2180
to my eyes. I walked around the car w/ a new poorboys "deluxe mega towel"
to get the spots I missed and even in the spots where I had used a bit too much product -
it came of easily. A few spots of the PC splatters left pin size white spots but even these
came off with minimal elbow grease.
Honestly I could have stopped there! It really looked great to my eyes.
But I wanted to try the AJ Trigger sealant.
This was as easy as applying a QD. It was still cool in the shade of my front yard so
I just spayed a bit onto the surface and WOWO with a fresh MF.
Most of the time it just seemed to absorb right into the surface
but it will streak if you use too much. Just take the dry side of the MF
and you are left with a perfect shine.
At first I didnt seem much of a difference. I cleaned the inside up a little and a neighbor
came and wanted to cut his grass. So I moved my car into the sun and that is when I had to grab the camera. Real clear relections and wet.
The pictures dont really do the shine justice but here are a few anyway.
Grey is hard color to make really pop but this combo really has me impressed.
After I get a few more layers of AJ on it I might top w/ a caranuba but
for now I am quite satisfied with the look and the ease of use of this combo.
