Prime and AJT on black

I'm a big fan of Prime Strong + AJT for its ease of use and durability but I'm starting to miss the carnuba look on my black metallic car (VW Passat). After the Prime application the car sorta has the look but AJT seems to mute it.

Please recommend the missing step. Is the obvious answer to top the AJT with a carnuba (I do have some S100 available)? My preference is to stick with the Werkstatt products because I'm otherwise happy with them and have plenty of product left but if there is an alternate to AJT that would give me the look without the extra step (while maintaining the ease of use and durability of course), I'd be interested to hear it. If it matters, this is all done by hand.

thanks in advance.

I think Z8 complements the Werkstat look very well. I've yet to see anything look better than Z8 over Prime. I know a lot of people don't like to mix brands, but this combo has really impressed me. Werkstat looks great by itself, but Z8 gives a little more wetness and is super easy to use. Anyway, if you want to stick with Werkstat, thier Carnauba Glos is a good product that I've used over other waxes. I'd think it would be fine over AJT as well, though additional AJT layers may not stick. One more high quality acrylic topper that's easy to use is Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield. It's similar to Z8 in my experience. Never used it on Werkstat, but it's great with Klasse.

I second the Z8 suggestion, I've used it over AJ as well and it does improve depth. You can also try using Optimum Car Wax or if you want to stay with Werkstat, Carnauba Jett...although of the 3 options, CJ is less user friendly (doesn't spread as well).

thanks guys.

From a quick search on Z8, it seems to be wipe-on sealant similar to AJT, but maybe with not the same durability?? Would you use this on top of AJT or in place of? (I do not want to turn this into Zaino vs the world thread). Z8 seems pricey at over a $1/oz.

Any other suggestions from the Autopians?

Z8 is like a sealant booster, IMO. Optimum Car Wax is probably your most cost effective option. You can use it right over cured AJT.

Thanks Scottwax,

I think I read that you top AJT with a carnuba on your black car -- do you use Optimum?

Used pretty much every carnauba I've had over AJ/AJT when I had my 626. I like OCW anc Carnauba Moose the best.

What about topping it with Prima Hydro? But use the Hydro dry like a QD (not like the wash and wax method). Although it's a "spray wax" I don't think it actually contains any natural wax and is completely synthetic.

That will give you your ease of use and it has a great look on black.
