Pressure washing interior ok?

Friend has an electric pressure washer, semi- strong at best. I watched him pressure wash the interior of his Tahoe, totally soaking the carpets and seats. There must have been a couple inches of water collected in low spots. On the positive side, the carpets were remarkably clean when he was finished.

Does anyone else do this or can this be safe for the interior/electrical connections that may run beneath the carpets? Also, most of the water was extracted via a shop vac but there still had to be some remaining. Wouldn't this make for a smelly car down the road?

Your thoughts?

I share the same concerns that you mentioned and I would never use a pressure washer in the interior of any vehicle.

I have heard of some people removing matts and pressure washing them on the outside of the vehicle. I've never done that, but that seems OK.

Removing matts and pressure washing them is OK, but the whole inside of a Tahoe. That is just dumb. It's not safe on the electrical connections, and all the remaining water could stink, mold ,and or rust the floor pan over time. Just my thoughts, I would not try it.

Very stupid indeed.

I had a seal leak b/c I had a CB antenna running through the door and it took a good week for the carpet to dry out. I even had it pulled up so it could air out.

It will stink..

Well thats what's happening at an adelaide detail shop (hackers really)

They pressure wash and steam clean every interior.

That sounds a bit like trying to wash your bedsheets by dumping a bucket of detergent on your sheets... while they're still on the bed, then bringing your garden hose inside and using a copper brush.

It's stupid!

Doing the carpets isn't bad, but the seats...man those take like 3 days to dry if you p/w those....if you absolutely SATURATE the carpets, and use an extractor machine to vacuum the water out, throw in a few fans:

let 'er sit overnight, and should be dry by morning...not as big of a deal as you guys make it out to be.

Bull roar!

What a fool.

That is just plain stupid. Screws up foams, adhesives, connections, metals, contacts, and on and on.

Sheesh some folks...

You mean we can pay for this type of service. :woot:

I cannot believe it!!

SVR, thanks for the info. You should remind the guys at the shop that there is a technology called hot water extraction cleaners, that are for the inside of the car.

I use the steam cleaner in my customer cars in combination with a water extractor. Steam does a great job on most stains.

You must have been one of the guys at the New Orleans dealerships; helping to refurbish inventory for resale after hurricane Katrina. :faint:
