Pressure Washer Questions

I just got an Excel 2,750 PSI Pressure Washer for cleaning around the house. I know many pros use them while detailing and I have a few questions:

-What tip do you use? (This is my biggest question!)

-Do you have to be extra careful when using it on the paint?

-Is there any precautions to take when doing the wheels?

-Will it remove too much of the undercoat when doing wheel wells?

-Do I have to worry about removing wax?

I have used pressure washers for years on concrete and siding, just never on a car. Since I have been doing details almost every weekend here lately, I am wondering if this can make my work either more efficient or better quality. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

I have the excell 2800 psi commercail unit and I use the green tip on all my detailing needs and the yellow tip for pressure washing. As far as all your other questions these are things you will learn as you go.

Thats alot of power behind that wand. I would probably use the tip with the widest spray pattern. I am precautious about spraying up close to the paint and I look out for paint chips that could possibly cause more paint to come off around it. The wheels should be fine and shouldn't give you any problems. As far as I know it doesnt strip off wax since it is only water you are spraying unless you use a very concentrated detergent through it. Ive got a 2400 psi and I have had any problems besides the fact my son turned my adj. spray nozzle to shoot a straight steam and started to take off some of the windsheild weather stripping. All in all you should be fine IMO.

Just be careful and use common sense and you should be alright. Be sure to keep a few inches between the nozzle and the paint, you can blast paint off if your not careful. The widest spray oattern should be more than adequate for any car-related cleaning, I use the concentrated spray on my pressure washer to remove imbedded algae from my home's stucco, car paint would not like that kind of pressure.
