Pressure Washer experts?

Got this North Star 5.5hp Honda powered General pumped PW for $100 from a local. Cleaned it up, looks brand new. Well...it definatly does not run like brand new. I took the pump apart to check seals, and the internals of the pump must have exploded at some point in time and fell out in my hand. Mainly the connecting rods were destroyed, the camshaft and the plungers look fine.



Question is, does anybody have any experience repairing pumps? Can I just get the parts and put it back together, or is this grounds for a new pump? I was going to call North Star and General, as this PW is only 2yrs old, it should not have done this. I cant find one reason in the world the internals would explode.

Think I would start by an online search for your local Honda dealerships. I bet you can get it repaired. If you end up having to put another $100 in parts, you're still ahead of the game! Not much help, I know. But, that's where I would start!

Well, I have checked around. Every shop said that if the pump did that, the pump is junk and will need to be replaced.



New pump...$179. Hmmm.
 
Yeah, I mean I know about the brand and such, and have had 3 General Pumps over the years, but this one just took a royal deuce.



I think, even though the pressure washer cost me $100, and a new pump will cost $170, thats still not bad for a 2700psi 2.5gpm commercial pressure washer with a Honda motor. This motor starts right up and runs like a kitten. I let it idle for almost an hour just to make sure it was fine. Shut it down, pulled right back on first start.



Only think wrong with replacing the pump, is that General does not make that pump anymore and I have to go back with a Comet pump, and I really would rather have General.

Haha, process on the "detail" was.



Wash with other PW and Degreaser

Paint with Poorboys PWC and Butter Wax wipedown with Showtime ID

Tires with AA

Polished valve cover with Zypher lol.
 
You really want the Cat pump on that one and by the way that unit is over two years old based on the cart that it is mounted on. The engine is a Honda commercial grade also. Great find by the way a new one today with that engine package is in the $600 range.

^^^ This is very true. You're still well ahead of the game even with a total of $270 sunk on the unit.
