I know Prepsol wasn't too friendly with the old base/clear systems but what short/long term effects will/can it have on the base/clear paints used on todays cars?

Attacks the all important "resin system"of the clear coat.

Starts the "break down"of the resin system.

It is a great product, for when one is going to do a refinish.

Cleans off many things, such as dimethal silicones, waxes, tar deposits, etc, very agressive.

Just read the ingrediants of the product, xylene, etc, which are clorinated solvents, they are listed on many paint products for cleaning the guns, etc. there many health warnings listed.

And, these components are toxic to humans, so do what you wish, just be aware.

I discovered and have been using Valugard New Car Prep to remove old LSPs in a pinch and polishing oils here and there between correction steps for several years now. One of the safest solvents of its type I know. Ron can chime in with more specifics since it's made by his old company.
