Preferred waxes (to top werkstatt) for solid red paint?

The vehicle in question is my 2006 Audi A3 in Brilliant Red. I've used multiple sealants on the paint, and none seem to give the same amount of depth as the cheap 3m wax I originally put on the vehicle when I first purchased it.

The sealants I've used are:

KAIO & KSG, topped with 3m wax

Zaino Z2pro / Z5

Menzerna FMJ

Werkstatt Prime Acrylic / Acrylic Jett (currently using)

I'm looking for a good wax to go over the Werkstatt. Durability is an issue so I would prefer to keep the werkstatt acrylic base, and am simply looking at a topper of sorts that could be applied every 1-2 months.

Currently on the list of waxes are:

Werkstatt Carnuaba Jett & Glos

Phil's "secret wax"

CG's XXX

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm pretty tempted to just order the CJ simply to continue using the Werkstatt line.

From your choices it would be obvious IMO to go w/ the CJ.

Most people don't top AJT here. I think the only sealants people top here is PB EX-P w/ Nattys Blue.

Your list looks very good so far, but if you are just looking for durability, why not try the new Opti Seal or CS.

Well the main issue is that I'm not pleased with the look of the sealant. The resulting finish is very glossy and smooth, but none of the sealants seemed to offer the richness and depth of a wax. From what I've read, OS and CS don't do much for appearances. They simply seal the existing look.

That is correct...I would go with the above mentioned "obvious answer", or give souvran a try. I actually slightly prefer the P21S Concours.

OCW, Natty's Blue, and Souveran all worked well on my red VW. CJ is nice, but application is not as easy. You have to use it really sparingly or it becomes difficult to work with. Some people mix OCW with CJ for that reason.

Whatever wax you use, just make sure it's low on the solvent side. For example, FK Pink Wax wouldn't be a good idea because, although it's an excellent wax, it has lots of solvents and would be more likely to degrade your sealant underneath.

I agree. I use Natty's Blue over Prime+AJ all the time. It will give you the deep, rich wet-look you are looking for.

I'd agree with that about CS but Opti-Seal has noticably more pop to me. Here is is applied over a well cured (5-6 weeks) application of Carnauba Moose:

Thanks for all the suggestions . . . as mentioned by BMW335i I think I will give Carnuaba jett a shot . . . just waiting to hear from werkstatt whether Acrylic glos can be used on top of it. I generally would rather keep all my lines separate. Worst case, it'll be in classifieds ;)

Scottwax: very nice red on the SC. Opti-seal certainly has my attention, as well as the entire optimum line. If it weren't for the fact that I have quite a few menzerna polishes (and plan on adding a few more), I would have snatched up the entire Optimum line, since it is highly praised and it seems to be quite affordable.

I am strongly considering buying the JW products after doing too much research on this forum. The posts I have read seem to suggest something as simple as Duragloss AW will be good on top of the AJ-T. It should give you the pop you are looking for...

Any experiences from anyone else?

Keep us posted on what you decide.

The Acrylic Glos actually works quite well and certainly gives the freshly applied sealant look. When comparing the cost of the two sprays, it is difficult to justify ordering the AW.

Nevertheless, I checked with Werkstatt and CJ and AJ can be applied interchangeably, although they mention that if topping CJ with sealant, AJT is recommended instead of AJ.

I'll be placing my order soon and hopefully this random snow will be gone by the weekend.

I have a victory red paint and have been through all the waxes and sealants. Pin. Souveran looks best to me on my car. The best lineup is Men. PO85RD, RMG, Then PS .... Another combo is PO85RD Meg.21, then PS.

Dave, just so that I understand, you will be using Prime, CJ for a warmer look, then top it with AJ-T?

Yes, I just applied Prime Acrylic and a layer of AJ about 3 weeks ago. Will simply wash and do a light clay with Sonus ultra fine and then top with CJ. Then I can use either CG, AG or AJ-T to top or maintain that look.
