PowerFist rotary?

the specs for this rotary look pretty good, the only thing is its really really heavy!

• Fast polishing for clear coat finishes

• 3-position handle to suit operator's preference



any thoughts?

Yeah, it looks a lot like the older Harbor Freight rotary they used to sell. If you're in that $75 range I'd spring a little more $$$$ and get a name brand like the Hitachi.
 
:p in Canada the hitachi was 400+. I think Bosstools is the only place in Canada that has it for a fair price. I am not really in any price range but I want to find something that is local. I used to have a Porter Cable 7428, but my dad ran over it. I liked all the features but it was a little on the heavy side. I think I may just end up getting another 7428, but I dont really feel like spending a lot of money on a rotary because I don't think I will ever use it on my own car, I just play around with scrap panels.



I am also considering a Metabo because of its weight but again, it is not avalable locally.
 
i wouldn't say that. I think weight gives you stability???



I remember seeing Paul aka the other pc polish out the hood of his trooper and he used a DW949 to do one section and he did another section with a his metabo. The part where he used the 849 turned out signigficantly better than the metabo. He used the same pad and product too!
 
your right Sneek not everyone prefer light(i do but thats me)

thats why there a pleathora of wax to sealant, buffer to pads, it boils down to ones preference

if you can definetly go to a store and place them in your hand and feel the weight and if

the control are easy to manipulate plus im not sure if looks of the tools a concern but ask your gf or wife if not ask a cute female assiociate that work there if it looks good lol



also the fellas are only suggest know names that have a track record that are know quality built to last,rugged again this is not stating vector or this unit your look at isnt..



we just would hate to see someone purchase a unit for say 70 buxs then the unit only last maybe a few times(again the is worse case scenario)

like you i observed a ol schooler who prefer a dewalt and the way he use it seems so easy like an art
 
by the way here is something less expensive this way youll see if you like it or not...

just to note this unit will bog but just keep up the speed plus you said you will only practice on scrap and if you like it then step up to a quality unit again your choice

plus this is the lowest ive seen it for (but i dont know if they will ship to you)

also when and if you check that hf link look for the white box you can type in (by item #) and type in 46507 and click find it this way you can see the specs and compare again this hf unit is discountuned...also i would of gave you the link but it would link you right that why i said type it in manually....

I think i will just get another 7428, heavy but a good machine! I know that it never bogs down and it is avalable locally.

True, at the time I was using the buffers’ weight only, not pressing down. But that was a 20 min set of test spots on a horizontal surface on freaking hard paint.



For an eight hour buffing marathon with less stubborn paint and vertical panels I think that lighter weight would be a good thing. I’m not about to trade in my Metabo. (But I am thinking about picking up a Dynabrade to go with it.)

Autogeek actually list the 7428 as more expensive that the 849 or the 9227



ahh so many choices
