Power inverter for Flex VRG 3401--will this one work?

You asked for help.

I offered a suggestion.

You didn't give all the information.

I have no problem.

I'm done with you.

Seems like this thread has taken a turn for the worse, but is it possible to keep this thread open so that I may update what the outcome was (as far as the electrical capabilities are concerned)? There's nothing worse than searching for threads only to find that the OP never followed up!

Much appreciated! And pics of that shiny new Mustang after she's all polished up would be great, too. Gotta love American Muscle! (I drive a Charger because the wife said there was no way we were gonna have a two door car. :( )

OK. The result is this--the polisher would not run off of the inverter, not even for a second. I guess the Flex VRG 3401 doesn't like modified sine inverter AC power. The halogen lamp powered up fine, though, but it wasn't much use to me without a polisher!

I ended up just waxing her by hand with Collinite 845. Then when I throwing away all my trash at a trashcan by the door, I saw this...

See it yet?

Where's the emoticon for facepalm?! I suppose I will keep my 15 pound paper weight--never know when it might come in handy! The sad thing about it is not being able to try the Optimum Hyper products!

so does the plug still have power? i see an extension cord in your future.

i thought the flex would have worked fine with modified sine wave. thanks for let everyone know.

Haha no problem. Thanks for your input.

It appears that it has power, but I haven't tried it out. There is some sort of breaker switch on the left that can be turned on and off, and then there is a light-style switch that I presume controls the outlets.

I'll probably wait for a rainy day for my next attempt (I'd rather not bother people with noise when they are trying to enjoy nice weather!)

At least I got a chance to carefully clay the car. The paint feels like glass now!

Lucky for me, my girlfriend is sick and told me I can do whatever I want tomorrow. Maybe I'll give it another shot! (Should take less time since I already clayed the car.) I guess I will use a high concentration of Chemical Guys Wash & Gloss (that's what I have on hand besides ONR) to try to strip off the Collinite before polishing.

Well, I gave it another shot. Finally got to use my polisher with the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish--decided to go to my parents' house to do it because I felt I had put my neighbors through enough yesterday.

For some reason, the polish made my finish somewhat hazy. I can't figure out what happened. I washed the car with a high concentration of Citrus Wash & Gloss to help strip some of the wax. Then I began polishing the hood. First I tried LC Tangerine Hydro pad with the OH Polish. Didn't seem to do much, maybe made the paint hazy. Then I tried LC Cyan Hydro pad with the OH Compound. Seemed to be about the same! The previous fine scratches seemed to come out a bit, but they were replaced by some haziness (very fine swirls when looking in a halogen reflection). What do you think happened? I let the polisher work on a 2x2' area for about 90 seconds (overlapping and such). Was I working too fast? The pads had just been cleaned in the washing machine the other night using Snappy Pad Cleaner as a detergent, and they felt like new pads to the touch. I also don't know if I applied too much product (maybe 4-5 squirts per 2x2' area).

To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed in the Optimum Hyper polishing products--although they don't fling, the spray nozzle pretty much shoots it straight out onto the pad in a very fine stream, causing it to splatter all over the place. It also seems to stain the trim, just like any other polish, although not as badly.

son of a *****! I just tested the outlet today and it doesn't work. Of course I already bought new polishes and pads and a 100 foot extension cord that I wont be able to use!

Sounds like you need a cordless buffer or a generator. Wish more people were as considerate of their neighbors concerning noise, but a generator shouldn't be much louder than a lawn mower.

Ask your apartment facilities manager if there is a way to power the outlet.

Running your car for four hours while you polish is not a good solution. Aside from the fact that it won't work (as you discovered), I'd be concerned about carbon monoxide under that breezeway even if it is relatively open.

Otherwise, you need to K.I.S.S. This is something you will only do once a year, right? Find an outlet outside that will work and is within 20' of your car. Check in your parking garage at your workplace, around other areas of your apartment building, do you have any friends that live somewhere else with an outlet? Look around - outlets are everywhere. Even some public parks have outlets at the base of street lamps or on the outside of restroom facilities. Stop with all the generators and converters and just find an easy to use outlet. I bet you could find a coin-operated car wash that has an exposed outlet too...

I think this is the best advice. I guess I will just have to go to my parents' house which is about 30 minutes away. Unfortunately, all of the places to work there are under trees, which can be a pain in the ***. Also, I have the same noise problem with neighbors.

About using outlets at gas stations, etc. I feel like that is stealing electricity. I also don't think I could work comfortably at my own pace if I am not actually in my own parking space/bay.

I think I will just give up on this whole endeavor. My Mustang right now is pretty hazy on the one side that I tried. :(

Maybe I can find someone on Autopia in the DC area that would let me share their garage for a weekend!

Or maybe I will just disassemble the car's body panels one by one and carry them upstairs and polish them. :D

d&d detail is in the dc area, as well as dan (aka yakky). i'm in king george (22485), which is more than 30 mins from dc, but your welcome to use my driveway.
