Post Your Auto Dry Techniques

I mean with he Mr. Clean Auto Dry system for those of us who don't have a crspotless system.



I tried it for the first time today with great results.



Basically I just hose(pressure wash for more severe dirt) down the car to get rid of the grit and grime and did not use the polymer soap that came with it and then I turn it on to the DI filter and just rinse the roof, windows , hood and truck lid and the car is totally spotless after it dries. No use wasting more of the filter on the side since the DI water will drip down onto the sides.



Post the way you use it.
 
I used the system, but the soap would not come out on any setting so I just used the rinse. It did not do a damn thing for me and this was on a car with about 4 coats of Zaino on it. Probably dump that thing right in the trash soon.
 
I've pretty much given up on the Mr. Clean Autodry. I followed their directions for use exactly.



Worked OK (not up to Autopian standards) until the filter expired on me in mid-rinse. My black car was spot-city afterwards and now I need to polish it out to completely get rid of all the help from Mr. Clean. :doh
 
I used the pro version, or whatever they call the newer one, it looked great but stripped off all the wax I had on there (Megs at the time) and so I dumped it
 
I think the biggest problem with the Mr. Clean is that the (DI) flow is so small. It takes a lot of rinsing to displace the hard water with the DI. Also as Scottwax has said, the quality of the housing leaves something to be desired in regard to fit of the cartridges and leakage. As chml17l noted above (I think), I have also had almost-new cartridges clog up me for no apparent reason.

Setec, I believe Scottwax's exact quote was the fitment is a "POS". :D
 
I really think the thing is a gimmick which they hope sell to every non-Autopian weekend car washer, to use a few times and then be left to collect dust in the back of the garage. It DOES work, but you have to have a lot of perseverence to get any benefit out of it.
 
I have done a dark red and dark green car with no water spots visible am I doing something right or wrong ? ...LoL



The principle of the system is really nothing new, its a anion and cation resin filter thats have been used for ages in the finishing industry, only thing is that theres no techinical information on the rate and capacity of the filters themselves like how many average gallons of treated water before it is exhausted etc. The flow is not too bad for a filter of this size, anymore flow you would need to get a bigger filter like the crspotless system which basically works by the same method.
 
Certainly the idea is sound, the "question" is whether a cheap implementation of it has value for the "amateur". I have used it, and it definitely has an effect, probably one that is acceptable to the non-Autopian. I still think for most people it's more of a hot-lather machine that's only going to get used until the novelty wears off.
 
All you really need is a good water pump, a hose, and distilled water that comes in 5 gallons. Forget the expensive water treatment systems. :D

I seen DI water here at local pharmacies for about $1.50cdn a gallon or else I will need to get a 45 gallon drum from chemical companies.

Return it, its guarenteed (cant spell). I got one and it worked like crap and returned it the next day.
 
would you really want to take a "short cut" with a novelty item like that? not me.... your car deserves the best, no matter how long it takes! ;)
 
I've been using Mr. Clean even before it hit the stores. I like it a lot. I've never had a problem with it stripping wax and the only time it left any kind of residue/film is when I was rushed and did not do a proper rinse. I love the idea of not having to rub anything across my paint to dry it and possibly cause a scratch.



I have amended the way I use it over the months. Recently I quit using their soap simply because it cost too much and isn't needed. Basically, now I just use the Mr. Clean for the final rinse with deioned (sp) water. I preceed that rinse with a stream of free flowing water.

Yeah, I basically do the same even before ever trying their soap which contains a surficant polymer to sheet off water. I just use it for the final rinse as well after a pressure wash or a detailed hose down. I love it when I can get my car all cleaned within 5 minutes and no physical contact with the paint and I'am off to work. I just rinse the DI water on the horizontal planes like the roof, hood and trunk, windows, mirrors and not the sides as the DI water will slide down the sides to save filter exhaustion.
