I am considering buying the porter cable ultimate detailing machine(how it is shown on www.properautocare.com) and am curious if this is a good product for someone with no experience using a machine to polish/wax. Any advice would be appreciated.

The Porter Cable is a very safe machine to use, even for a newbie to detailing. If you have a Lowes near you can purchase the Porter Cable 7336 for $115, it's the same machine as the 7424. Then buy a backing plate and some pads are you are all set.

I bought my 7226 from Lowes and it was around $116 including tax. I ordered the DM-KIT from CMA for $70 shipped. Email them and tell them if you could change the terry pads to MF pads. Ive heard people on here doing that free of charge.

The PC is pretty idiot proof. The only way you are going to damage your car with one is if you dropped it while it was on or something like that. As long as you are being careful with where the edge of the backing plate is, there really isn't a way for you to screw up your car short of dropping it. The pad kit that CMA has it pretty complete too. That would be a perfect kit to get if you were going to be using the PC to restore and maintain your car's finish. Don't be afraid of the PC. It is really really easy to use. There is a lot of great info in David's Autopia eBook on proper PC usage. That may help calm some of your fears about using one. Check it out. :xyxthumbs
