I am currently interested in purchasing a Porter Cable. But before I do, i would like some reccomendations on which poorboys products i shoudl use in conjunction with the Sonus pads.

For example:

Do i use the SSR 2.5 wit the orange cutting pad or green polishing pad?

Can i use, after the 22r 2.5/ssr1 combo, a polish (poorboys professioanl polish) or is the ssr a filler which the polish will remove?

I am veryyyyy frusturated!

is the following combo good in conjunction with the porter cable? do i "need" the pro polish?

wash

ssr 2.5

ssr 1

If you get SSR1, you could skip the pro polish IMO. SSR 1 really preps the surface well for EX-P and will remove light marring/swirls.

As to which pad to use, I like to try the least aggressive first which would be the polishing pad and then move to the cutting pad if needed. If you only have one set of pads this could create an issue because you would need to wash the polishing pad before using it to apply SSR 1. I have found that the SSRs do not break down well even with damp pads.

You could probably get away with SSR 2.5 with your cutting pad, SSR 1 with the finishing pad and then EX-P with the finishing pad. I don't now the condition of your car or the color, but this is the approach most folks seem to use - I think more people preach the least aggressive pad/product approach than practice it. SSR 2.5 is not likely to cause any long-term damage so I think you would not be taking a risk on a car in decent condition...as you build your pad collection you may do like I do and designate a polishing & cutting pad for each product.

With the SSRs once you break the product down (when it dusts) stop and remove the product with a microfiber towel. Some areas may require several passes, so remember to be patient. Also I have more success working small areas - no larger than 2'x2'. If you leave the product on too long you may need to make another pass with the PC to remove it.

SSR 2.5 and SSR 1 work great with the PC and I think you'll be very happy with the results. I have found that it is easier to apply a thin coat of EX-P with a finishing pad than by hand.

I would wait at least 24 hours to top the EX-P with another coat of EX-P or a carnuba LSP.

Good luck and remember to post your results with some pics!

But if i wanted a better shine could i use the polish after the ssr or will the polish take out the ssr and bring the swirls back.

The polish would remove the SSR, but should not bring any swirls back. I don't know how much difference you could tell, but I sometimes use Sonus Paintwork Cleanser between SSR 1 & AIO or Pinnacle Signature. It makes me feel better so I do an extra step when I have the time. Many would consider it to be overkill.
