So I got my porter cable 7424 finally...Well just noticedthat none of the pads and backing plate I saw on the youtube videos are on there.....crap! anyone know where I can get them from in British Columbia Canada? or am I gonna have to order these online? Plus another question, are all pads the same style? I notice everyone calls them by the color of the pad, is this normal? whats what in the pad world?

The only pad that comes with the PC is a white foam already attached to a plastic plate that screw directly into the spindle. What you need is a hook and loop (velcro) backing plate. It will allow you to use the pads that pretty much everyone uses. Different company's have different styles. My recommendation is to get 4" Lake Country pads (orange, white, grey, red) and their corresponding backing plate. You can get them from Autogeek.net, I don't know where you could find them in your locale.

If you're anywhere near Maple Ridge, B.C. you could try Autowerkes Exclusive. They have LC CCS pads in 4, 5.25 and 6.5 inch. (it's always hand to have a small backing plate and some 4 inch pads for tight spots, but my preference is 5 to 5.5 inch pads 90% of the time)

nah im in victoria bc and i cant seem to find anyone besides walmart that sells autocare products :sosad

Autogeek.net has all the LC pads, and hardware, that you need.

Search their site under "Lake Country" and you'll even find a chart that describe the various types (colors) of their pads. Different manufacturers use different colors for some pads.

I doubt that you're going to find any polishing pads OTC. I could be wrong.

this is brutal, I cant even find a 5 inch backing plate in my town...they said that 6 inch is the standard plate, 5's were rare....I thought the PC 7424 was a popular buffer, why isnt there a supply of backing plates? is my town just crap?

i prefer to use the 4 inch pads and the Edge system. For me it works much better. Look up the Edge 2000 on Autogeek.net for some ideas.

Speaking from experience, if you'll be using 6.5" pads (which most people do!) get a 6" backing plate, not a 5".

You will thank me! 5" BP with 6.5" pads means you don't get pressure to the outside of the pads... and it does matter :)

also need a 3.5"BP for 4" pads, you will want them.

so your shopping list would be:

3.5"BP

6"BP

Orange 4" pads

White 4" pads

Orange 6.5" pads

White 6.5" pads

Grey 6.5" pads

eShine Canada- Car Wax, Car Polish, Microfiber, Polishers, Tire Dressings, Detailing Supplies. is where I get my products, or CarCareSmart.com Canada: Premium Car Care and Detailing Products which is in Burnaby, but unfortunately they aren't stocking as much lately as they used to... But they do have a lot in stock and if you e-mail them they will get back to you very quickly.

I'm in Kelowna! Good luck!

 +1 for Autowerkes. After reading this thread, I emailed Ken from Autowerkes and picked up some products (Natty's Black Hole Glaze & BlackFire Sealant). Ken is very knowledgable and was more than happy to answer all my questions about detailing. (Products - Autowerkes Exclusive)

As for picking stuff up locally... I heard that Downtown AutoSpa (55 East 5th Ave. , Vancouver) also sells some detailing products, you might find what you are looking for there.

Another option is to wait until you have a big purchase.... purchase from Autogeek using their free shipping coupon (or wait until they have a nice sale), send it over to a PO Box on the other side of the border (i used Ship Happens for $5.00) and pick it up yourself.

I just picked up a $325.00 US order from the border.... free shipping, and they never charged me taxes / duties when I crossed the border (even after I declared it). :woohoo: Of course, your results may vary but I figure it might be good for people to know.

Of course theres also eshine and such.. but that has already been mentioned.
