Porter cable deal?

The model you are talking about is the 7336 machine that comes with a dust collection system (for the sander part) and a case. I did not need or want the dust collection stuff and the case, while molded to fit the machine....will not hold anything else, like pads.

I got a plastic tool box for about $8 at Lowes when I got my 7336. It holds the machine, with backing plate attached, and all 6 of my pads.

Acura,

The 973XX's come with velco backing plates. You do not have to remove the backing plate to put these in the PC case. In fact, the backing plate appears to support the PC in the case.

Coastaltool.com has a description of what is included with each PC model #.

There might be, there is room around the outside, in the corners. I keep my pads in a separate plastic box with a lid.

If you are not going to do any sanding, it might be better to go with one of the other models, and just get a $10 toolbox to put the PC in. The case is kind of bulky, and it is questionable how many pads would fit. It seems to me that the case is too big for just the PC (though it is molded, and should provide good protection), but too small to fit many pads. It looks like the molded case is designed to hold sanding disks.

thanks steve,

I usually work with my hands around the house and I can see myself using the sander possibly in the future. If I have to I can always get an extra toolbox like Matt did.

Sorry for doubting you Matt

By the way, the reason why I was asking so many questions about the 97335 and 97336 is because they are both discontinued according to Porter cable.

For anyone who is interested, The 97335 is now cataloged as the 97355.

The 97335 and 97336 used to come with an adhesive backing pad but was discontinued in 1994 per porter cable.

However many sites such as amazon.com never seemed to change the catalog number.

Most likely your unit says 7355 on it Steve.

Pretty good detective work huh, lol

Acura95...after seeing the case on Griot's site...I thought it would not hold what I wanted, and I have no need for the dust collection things. The one you are talking about is the one Griot's sells.

I got my pads and backing plate from a local auto body supply shop.

I just ordered a PC7274 for $120 from Sportscarcare.com.. This kit includes a polishing pad, the 6" hook-and-loop backing plate that works well with 6 1/2" polishing pads, as well as the applicable counterweight. They are a sponser on Audiworld and the owner said the kit comes with the plate you need for the pads.. Pretty good deal compared with other places..

Acura95...as I wrote above, I got a 5" 3M Hook-It (NOT Hook-It 2) plate and some Meguiar's 6.5" pads. Very little vibration and, I really like the fact that I have a "soft" edge as the plate is slightly smaller than the pads.

Remember that unless you use the foam pad that comes with the 7424, you will need the 6" counterweight anyhow..as the velco backing plate and 6.5" pads are too heavy for the 7424 counterweight. Tha't s why I wound up with the 7336.

matt-

that makes total sense. thats why I was going to get the 7335 with the 5"hook and loop plate and I have a distributer 3 miles away I can pick up the 6"counter weight.

I could just the same order the 97336 and pick up a 5" hook-it plate the same as you.

angrytitty- damn theres an oxymoron lol

I saw that deal and it is good but I wanted the sanding accessories

Porter cable Update:

About 2 weeks ago I purchased my PC after a month of searching. I purchased the 97355 from amazon.com and got one heck of a Deal.

The total came out to $82.00 including shipping, and it came with a 5" hook and loop backing plate as well. The only work I had to do was check the porter cable site on where to find the 6" counterweight, which only turns out to be a couple of miles away.

Whatever you do, it's best to get and use the 6" counterweight for polishing - regardless of backing plate size (5" or 6").

Moved to Detailling....
