I had a question about purchasing a porter cable at lowes. is it cheaper to purchase one there than it is off ebay? where is the cheapest place to purchase one? w/ a coupon i found online for 10% off i can get it for 106 after tax.

the one at lowes is not the 7424 but i think the 7336sp. i sthere a difference. i think this one might come w/ a sanding disc also but is the machine the exact same thing?will the model number on the 7336sp say 7424 on it's id tag?

thanks guys.

The 7336 has the 6" counterweight. Some of us prefer that, others feel it doesn't make any difference. I don't think anyone has said they think the 7424 is better, only the same or slightly inferior to the 7336. You can always buy the 6" counterweight for a few bucks and convert the 7424.

The 7336 also comes with a 6" Velcro backing plate, which allows you to use good pads so it's better than the 7424, which only comes with the lame screw-on pad. I believe the "sp" means that it also has the lame screw-on pad.

If it's a 7336 it will be labeled a 7336.... not sure if the SP will be on there.

As others have said they are basically the same tool. They all use the same body, but the difference will be in the counterweight and how the PC is outfitted. The following link might help explain it better:

Don't get too hung up on these model #'s. If you think the counterweight might be an issue you can get the other weight for about $2 or $3. As for the backing plate you can order the size you'll want when you order your pads.

I believe the "sp" is just the packaging; the unit is boxed with both the Velcro and foam pieces. I'm pretty sure the machine itself would just be labeled 7336.

I purchased mine from lowe's. The box says 7336sp and the unit itself says 7336. Mine came with the foam pad and a backing plate for sand paper(non velcro)

Yep...the SP stands for Sander/Polisher, not that it really matters. The 7336 and 7424 are the exact same machine with the exception of the model number, counterweight, and the accessories you get with it.

The 7336SP comes with the non-velcro adhesive backing plate, three sanding discs, and a polishing pad, with a 6" counterweight. IMO, the polishing pad is crap, but I found it perfect for using it to wrap my MF bonnets around.

Not sure about the 7424 but I'd guess it came with the 5" counteweight and backing plate or pad.
