Porter Cable: 7336sp VS 7424

Ok, Iam new here. I have completely searched this entire machine forum and the internet on the subject. It has been discussed a little but is normally a side-subject, not the main.

So I figured what the heck and would ask the question myself.

Here goes.

What is the difference between the PC 7336sp and 7424? I know the main reason for me and everyone else even looking at the 7336sp is the fact that its sold at Lowes for $99.

Which also strikes a question in itself. The 7336sp seems to have more than the 7424 but is selling for less? Is this just lowes offering it for less?

Why do people even buy the 7424? Everywhere I searched it sells for $119 or more? So why would anyone ever go for that + shipping.

Other than the 6" counterweight for the 7336, is it truly the same machine?

Yep, identical machines other than counterweights. I'm one of those guys that paid over $100 plus shipping, why? I didn't know about the 7336.

Oops, almost forgot. :wavey :welcome

Yes, as JDookie said, they are the same except for the counterweights and backing plates, both of which are cheap and easy to change.

I have both and can't even tell which is which any more, having changed the weights/plates so may times.

I would like to purchase the 7336sp from lowes tomorrow. would i need to change the counterweight on it to use with the sonus das pad kit. or is the weight that it comes with fine for that kit.

I bought one at Lowes and ordered some pads, I am so excited! I can't wait to complete my girlfriends civic, then my Audi! But its getting pretty cold...OH WELL!

Hi Guys, this is my first post on this forum. Some great information here and I hope mine will be a long association.

Has anyone got a picture and specification on the PC 7336?

Here in Australia our power supply is 240 Volts. Is the unit dual voltage or maybe runs off a transformer?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am new to this and appreciate all the good advice on this board.

If I buy the 7336, what is the other equipment I need? What is the "backer plate" and what about pads? What do you recommend as a "basic" set of pads, etc. to do some light-duty polishing and removing swirls? My wife's car is pretty new and I have kept it polished by hand, but it has non-metallic red paint and it has very fine swirl marks which are visible in bright light at the right angle.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

seikoguy, thanks for the link. Much appreciated.

I actually continued to review different threads here and discovered members who have bought the Porter-Cable products and use them on 230-240 volts via step down transformer.

This is relevant to me. But I'm a dunce regarding things electrical. What specifications would I have to look for in a stepdown transformer for the PC?
