Porter Cable 7336, what pads to use?

Hey yall, I am thinking of picking up a Porter Cable 7336SP from lowes (they have One in stock), and sence I live in Alaska I really want to try to not order pads online (Shipping is KILLER). Anyways, I went to one of our Local Auto Paint Supply Shop, and they had a 3M 6" velcro backing pad that would work on the Porter Cable, and then for pads they had the Meguiers 6 1/2" Foam Pads (Yellow ones and Red Ones). Would this setup work? And on a side not, are the Meguiers Pads good, and which ones to use for what? Ohhhh yeh, and how do you clean them? lol.

Thanks in Advance.

I have the Meguiars pads and am pretty happy with them. Of course, if one does go belly up for whatever reason, I can drive down the street and pick up another one. :up I'm not the expert on the PC, though... this is just my experience.

I have yet to use the maroon cutting pad (I'll use it tomorrow along with DACP to do a badly oxidized 25 yr old van.) I've used the yellow polishing pad with #9 with great success. And the beige finishing pad is great for a final #9 polish, and applying Klasse. I don't know about your hook and loop... I use the Meg's WD64 - it fits great.

To clean them, I throw them in the kitchen sink with hot hot water and a bit of dish soap. Once the water cools down enough to put my hand in it, I start kneading and squeezing and rubbing to get the gunk out of it. Then a good strong rinse of warm water. To dry it, I roll it like a taco to squeeze the water out, and put it up to dry. Good as new!

Hope this helps!

Tusin:

Check how the Meguiar's pads fit on the 3M 6" velcro backing plate. My 5" W-64DA Meguiar's velcro plate pretty well covers most of the velcro on the Meguiar's pad. It would seem that the 6" plate would be cutting into the foam of the pad.

Maybe your paint supply store could order the Meguiar's 5" backing plate for you.

Damn some good info. So what I have found then, is that if I can get a 5" go with that, but its not going to do Harm or anything just might vibrate or cut a little bit into the 6 1/2" pads if I use a 6" backing plate.
