Portable cd player and whine

I have a 92 Nissan pickup that I installed a SkyFi with no problems. The SkyFi uses the cd changer port of a Kenwood cassette deck. I decided to add an input splitter so that I could use my Sony Walkman to play cd's but I am getting ineffective ground whine from the cd player.

Here is how I'm set up. Aftermarket cig plug in the dash to a three way so that I can power the Skyfi, the cd player and always have a cell phone charger hooked up. With the Clarion that comes in Nissans there is no ground wire as it uses a direct stereo frame connection instead. Below the stereo I found 2 metal support brackets bolted together so I loosened the bolt, stripped back ½" of the Kenwood stereo ground, insterted this between the 2 brackets and retightened the bolt. Everything with the SkyFi and stereo is good. To make sure it was an ineffective ground I disconnected the AC power adapter to the cd player and let it run on batteries and then everything is good. I purchased a ground loop isolator and put it on the input from the SkyFi and cd player but had no effect. If I turn down the cd player volume all the way the whine is diminished but still noticable between songs.

I hope that someone can help me out on this. Attached is a jpg schematic of the setup.

Thanks,

Autoeng

I am terrible with diagrams... but i can tell you this: Usually whine is caused by crossed wires. Like a power wire and the speaker wire for instance. Make sure all your wires are seperated from one another. Hope this helps. GOod luck.

Not that as the cd power wire doesn't come anywhere any others. Oh well, it's almost Christmas, guess I'll put a new deck on my list.

Hey there Autoeng,

Where in KY are you from?

I am also from KY...glad to see someone else from here...

Finally solved this problem. I bought an actual Sony brand AC car adapter. Much higher quality than the Radio Shack one and noise is history.
