I think the 918 represents what we'll see from super-cars in the future: gasoline + electric motors.

IIRC, the 918 has a 500hp gas engine and a 200hp electric motor mounted on each axle yielding a total of 900 hp :)

I believe the car was reviewed on Top Gear Season 22, Episode 5 by Richard H. Going to try to catch the show tonight to freshen up my memory on all of this :)
 
One day I'll own one... one day.
Until then I'll just continue to drool. :drool:
