Porsche Carrera Meteor Grey

When applying BFWD, try this.. Use two SMALL drops on the gold pad and apply on speed 4. Apply thinly to about 1/4 of the Porsche, half of the hood, fender, roof, and half of the door. A little bit goes a LONG way. If you are not sure if you still are applying the sealant (the gray may make it hard to see the coverage), run the machine over the window.

As far as the wax, how long did you let the sealant cure before application. Cold weather is going to dramatically slow down the bonding of the polymers (hence taking longer to dry). I don't think it is really a problem with the wax so much as it was a problem with the sealant underneath.

Here are some suggestions.

Menzerna PO85rd uses a real thick oil that gives the polish such a long working time. In cold weather it is going to be even harder to remove the oils after polishing, and it might be impossible or hard to see them after polishing. Once your microfiber becomes loaded with the oils you tend to push them around paint vs. pick them off the paint.

After polishing with 85rd I would rewash the car using a strong solution of soap and then dry using a quick detailer with some cleaning power (I love Meguiar's M34 as it doesn't leave anything behind and helps displace the oils that can still be there, even after a wash).

Given the color and the difficulty in seeing oil film on the color, I would guess that this is likely the problem.

Guys, guys, guys...

I am not having a nightmare of a time with this stuff. By the replies (and very helpful ones at that) I am getting it may seem that way. I AM NOT!! I love the BFWD. As with any new product, there is a learning curve and I will get used to it.

It took one hell of a product to unseat the P21s carnuba that I've been using for more than 4 years. I love the BFWD. The 105 and the 85rd are replacing my previous polishes because I believe they are substantially better than anything else I've used.

Roughly 12 hours.

I did a complete wipedown with a solution of 30% Iso-alchohol/70% distilled water and a new microfiber. It was sqeakin. Just a plain surface that accepted the sealant really nicely. I just took it off too soon.

Last night, I stripped off everything and started over. After leaving the BFWD on for more than 45 minutes, the removal was alot easier. The 2nd coat will go on tonite.

After re-reading my post, I am not sure the 1st response should have been "I am surprised you are having such difficulties with the BFWD". There is much more in my post than a complaint about removing it. Frankly, I think the instructions on the bottle can be revised so a new user can get great results out of the gate. That would be better for business. I am sure the product is tried out by alot of folks who are just starting out, not just professionals.. After all, a forum like this should be a good place to constructively critique a product so it becomes perfect. Not just a place to only pump up the positives. Just my opinion and I write this with a great deal of respect to the folks who really know what they are doing and are very generous with their time AND desire to help. Thanks.

Sorry if I sound ungreatful. I am not. I appreciate the help. I really do.

Beautiful job, Joe !! Have also had great results with M105 and Menz P085d.
Also have been using more and more BFWD instead of my Zaino supply, and customers really like the results too! That is all that matters, right ? You like it, they like it, the world is a happier place - one beautiful detail at a time !!! :):):)

I have only applied BFWD with the small foam pad, and never have difficulties taking it off. I usually start at one end applying it, go all the way around the entire vehicle, and start taking if off at the end I started at. Never smears, etc., for me this way. (Caution, your mileage may differ :) )

Just detailed a Volvo XC90 in a very similar color; BFWD x 2, MidnightSun x 1, and it was blinding in the sun the next day. The dark gray looked very wet like it had just been sprayed.
I am sure your Porsche looked even better, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Dan. I was so proud of the job I did. I am sure it would have been better if one of you guys did it but I was so satisfied that I did it myself.

The BFWD will probably my next stand-by for final step for several years to come.

Thanks I appreciate all the help I've gotten here and the inspiration I've mooched off of all you guys..

Joe D.,
Welcome, and also welcome to this Forum.

We are all glad to help, we all learn from each other, and as can be expected, we are at all different levels in our experience and knowledge.

Another nice thing about this place - no inflated, inflatable, inflatulent, :) egos, just a bunch of great guys and a couple of gals I believe, that like to hang out sometimes and talk about this stuff..

Hope you continue to do the awesome work you already do and stop by sometime and share more stuff, etc..
