Poorboys Wheel Sealant Review

Application:

Easy to apply: wipe on - let it haze - buff off

3 Coats applied consecutively about a month and a half ago to my polished uncoated Boss 301's.

About 2 weeks after I applied the coats it rained here for about 2 -3 weeks and I hadn't washed my truck until now.

Protection, clean up, appearance -

Sorry forgot to take any before pics but I've been driving in the rain for the last 3 wks so they were covered with 3 weeks of dirt, road grime, brake dust.

Washed with Meguiars NXT soap - Cleaned up very easy with just the soap.

After washing I sprayed some Spray and Wipe and did a quick wipe down with a MF. I only noticed a few small spots of discoloration everything else was still very shiny and no oxidization present.

Minimal if any loss of slickness - very close to the slickness of when it was applied.

Conclusion:

Very easy to use and over a month of protection was more then I expected. It has proven itself in the cold and rain so I'll be interested to see how it holds up to the heat in the summer months.

IMO This is a great product for anyone who has polished uncoated wheels to help protect them and keep them looking their best.

I'll update this in the summer months and see how it holds up to the heat.

I love the Wheel sealant. it gives me 2 months protection. The only problem i have with it is that when used on polished Aluminum Wheels it doesnt not look as "mirror' like as when polished normaly. Also i have decided to use a spray bottle with car wash soap & water to spray the rims for a QD follwed by Quickshine or Spray& gloss with a old MF towel. :eat:

I haven't tried this product yet, but I have used Wheel Wax. Based on my experiences with other PB's products, I'm sure the Wheel Sealant is the equal or better of Wheel Wax. I never really bothered protecting my wheels previously, but there certainly is a difference. My wheels are now much easier to clean, have a slick finish, and are much shinier.

FYI . . . I found that the Mother's Powerball makes wheel application of polishes and sealants a much faster process. Since it's a big ball of foam pieces it molds around all the shapes in the wheel and gets into every nook and cranny. Cuts my wheel protecting time in half since I have fairly ornate wheels.

Nice review!

I concur with your opinion. Poorboy's wheel sealant is a terrific product that does an excelent job. My little detailer really enjoys the smell and the color when we put it on.

Thanks for the review. Truck looks GREAT!

Have you tried anything else on these wheels? Have you left them 'bare' at any time? How does it all compare?

Great review of a great product. I have two points to add.

1) The first container of wheel sealant I received came in the summer. It was a thick liquid. It went on somewhat too thick seeing as it was a liquid. However, I got some more this past December in that great giveaway thing and noticed it was more like a paste wax. I went out and looked at my old container and what do you know...it had solidified more. Apparently this stuff will "melt" somewhat.

2) Per our local expert detailer, I have started putting down a base coat of a something like Klasse AIO prior to the wheel sealant. It seems to give slightly better results.

I cannot say enough good stuff about wheel sealant. If you have not tried it - try it and you will be hooked!

Mikeyc,

Wheel Wax and Poorboy's Wheel Sealant are two different animals. Wheel Wax is a cleaner wax. Poorboy's Wheel Sealant has no cleaning ability.

seal your wheels once with wheel sealant and follow every wash with mothers fx spray wax. restores the original slickness and extends its protection. i have had the same wheelsealant followed by mothers fx spray wax for 3 months now and it still beads and cleans off soo friggin easy.

Ok so is this Stuff suppose to be a Paste or Thick Liquid. Becasue mine came as a thick liquid. ?

Good question. I found jar #2 that was a solid worked a whole lot better.

I too like PB's Wheel Sealant product. I've never used the Wheel Wax product, so no comparisons. I have used the Wheel Sealant standalone and following ProtectAll's polish on two different sets of clear coated wheels.

FWIW, my version is more "whipped" paste and less liquid, yet not a "solid". My container is white, where your container appears to be clear showing the pink contents.

Thanks everyone!!

Thanks! I haven't had them bare but I did polish them with Clearkote Metal polish and put a few coats of Zaino (no ZFX-24hrs between coats) on them when I first got them. Zaino didn't hold up as I expected it too, the wheels started to spot and discolor after a couple of weeks. The Zaino I have is about 1 1/2 old so I don't know if that has an effect on it's durability.

The wheels were cleaned with metal polish prior to applying the WS

Mine is more "paste like" but softer...not a thick liquid though.

IIRC, Steve mentioned in a previous post that PWS has some slight cleaning ability.

If this is true, and I don't think it is, the main selling point for the Wheel Sealant is it's durability. For Wheel Wax it is known as a strong cleaner so comparing the two is like apples to oranges.

Seems like my first post was censored.

I agree, durability and protection is the main selling point (the reason I bought it) but if I work in PWS on uncoated aluminum my rag turns black so it does have some cleaning ability...

PwS is for paint and Wheel Sealant is for Wheels...how would these two become comparable? Wheel Sealant because of its carrier solvents may also do some slight cleaning, but has no specific cleaning properties.
