PoorBoy's vs. Wolfgang vs. Clearkote - Please Help!

OK- new Black Sapphire 335 coupe due next month, and I need to order my detailing supplies (new to detailing- I have nothing). On another thread the kind members of Autopia helped me decide on Natty's Blue or Red as my LSP. Here is the rest of my proposed lineup (you'll see where I'm on the fence). Please give me your recommendations, and feel free to suggest other steps/products! Thanks!



1. Wash (thinking of using Gold Class for general wash- what to use for first wash to strip down to the clear coat- Dawn? Would K-AIO work after wash with Gold Class?)

2. Clay (plan to use Clay Magic)

3. Polish or Glaze (PoorBoy's OR Wolfgang or RMG?????)

4. Sealant (PoorBoy's OR Wolfgang OR ??????)

5. NB or NR



Also: Which Quick Detailer to use in between waxes????



Please note that steps 3 and 4 will be by hand, and I'm not expecting to have to remove swirls or scratches.



I wouldn't mind working K-AIO in there somewhere- between steps 2 and 3?? After my LSP, if I ever use K-AIO again, I presume that will take me back to the clear coat, right?

OK, so everything done by hand and you dont care about removing swirls and scratches. If you say so....



1. Wash with Megs GC, NO DAWN!

2. Clay

3. Go over paint with AIO

4. ClearKote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze

5. Optimum Opti- seal. Can be used over Carnauba.

6. Havent tried either, both should be fine.



Here are some different options for steps 3 & 4.



You can use XMT 360, itll clean, correct, and seal. Has ultra fine abrasives, minor fillers, and polymers to seal. This would cover steps 3 & 4 in one and is what I recommend. This can be used by hand. This also doesnt have a cure time, so you can go straight to LSP.



Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba is basically the same thing as XMT 360, but I havent used it.



Poorboy's Polish with Sealant which again is very similar.
 
This is what clay, polish, AIO, and WG Paint Sealant looks like on Black Sapphire. I spent a LOT of time polishing on this one, but it paid off.

BTW, it's not that I don't care about removing swirls or scratches, but I'm counting on my dealer giving me a swirl and scratch-free car (I know- perhaps a bit overly-optimistic, but my dealer seems to do pretty well in that regard, and I know will take care of me if the car is delivered in less-than-(reasonably) perfect condition.

What you seem to have a few products in mind which may not all work together: Personally a combo i love is a polish, by hand you will want a paintwork cleaner. Poorboys Pro Polish would be ideal, then apply Clearkote RMG then apply your Wolfgang Sealant. You shouldent encounter bounding issues.



Using AIO and Vanilla moose would be a waste of time and product IMO.



Glazing over sealed pours is something i dont personally like either. So dedicated paintwork cleaners>Glaze>Wax (or some sealants).



Or



AIO then top with wax or sealant.

Thanks, Geoff. What about topping a sealant with wax? I want to have the underlying protection of a sealant, but the look of NB w/my black paint.
 
If you are considering using Megs GC as your wash you should really think about using Duragloss 901 instead. You can get it OTC and it is a favorite on this board. Very slick, well priced, won't strip, and leaves the car gleaming afterward. Smells like cherries too!



I like Poorboy's spray and gloss as an all around detailer. Duragloss FCS is excellent too (may even have more slickness) but you need to watch out for streaking by wiping down completely. You should probably get some Aquawax too. Enjoy your new ride.
 
Thanks guys, I was just trying to show PK8 what he can expect with the proper prep. This car was pretty much swirl and defect free when I started, but didn't look anything like this. Even after starting with a near perfect finish, I was able to improve it a lot by polishing and using, what I think, is the best combo on this particular paint and color.

Even if you think it looks great when you get it, I'm sure it can be improved on. Just take your time, and do it right.
 
Hey J, I know everybody has their favorite QD, and I've tried a bunch myself. But the best I've found lately is to mix up some ONR in QD strength in a spray bottle. You ever try that?

You're right. I didnt realize AIO has sealing abilities. It would be better to go with a pure cleaner like Geoff said, then a glaze. However, Im not sure RMG should be used under WG sealant.

No, sure haven't. My current favorite is 50% Optimum Wax and 50% Zaino Z-8. The finish is amazing, and slickness??? Don't even get me started. :D



I stumbled on this just to use up small amounts of each that I had left over from samples. The Sonus QD's are awesome too.
