Poorboy's Trim Restorer - Application questions

This weekend I detailed my wife's car (1995 Honda Civic LX) using some new products that I just purchased.

One thing I used was the PB Trim Restorer. I used it on the smooth and textured trim pieces on the exterior of the car. I applied it using a cut up eagle 1 tire swipe (I figured it was similar to a foam paint brush). I applied it, waited a couple minutes, then buffed off the excess.

At first it looked great, but after a few minutes it looked uneven. I re-applied to those parts and buffed it off again. This morning it looks a little splotchy in places, but most of it looks good.

What is the best way to apply TR? I am going to try to pick up some foam brushes for next weekend. I'm interested in all of your experiences with this product.

Thanks,

K

TR is only designed for grained/textured trim. It will not adhere to smooth, non-porous, surfaces. For the smooth trim, you will probably be better off with a one-step paint polish/protectant (e.g. Klasse AIO, Clearkote VM, Poorboy's PwC) or a non-carnauba QD spray (e.g. Poorboy's Spray & Gloss).

For grained trim, especially on an older vehicle, be sure to thoroughly pre-clean with a diluted APC. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is another tool that may come in handy here (test in an inconspicuous place first). Afterwards, apply just a few drops to an applicator (a cut up tire swipe should be fine) and spread. Wait about 15 minutes, then buff off excess with a cotton terry towel.

Ok that sounds good - Thanks for the info.

What about exposed rubber on the vehicle (window trim, seals, etc.)?

If it's smooth, I normally use a one-step product like Vanilla Moose and treat it as though it were a painted surface.
