Poorboys Spray and Wipe Replacement

I've been using Poorboys Spray and Wipe on my (red) garaged vehicle for maintenance cleaning. The car is garaged at night and during the day at my work (lucky me!) so the car really never gets all that dirty.

The thing I have been noticing though is that when i spray the car and wipe it down with a MF - it leaves behind residual streaks. It's like the product never fully comes off the car. If I spray again and wipe it down - I still get the same results - sometimes more and sometimes less. It just never fully comes off. The steaks can be more or less pronounced depending on the way the sun hits the car. If hit the car w some spay wax after using Spray and Wipe - the streaks are gone - but I don't want to have to do this two step process each and every time.

Is this due to my application process? Maybe using too much?

Maybe it's juts not reacting well w my paint or my LSP - Blackfire Wet Diamond.

I just ordered Griots Speed Shine so I'm going to give that a go.

Do you guys have another suggestion as to what to try? I need sort of "speed detailer on steroids" . Something for cleaning that goes just one step beyond removing light dust.

Thanks!
Dan

But if it were to be used as a waterless wash, don't you want complete coverage of the paint before wiping? I've used it a few times and while it is a bit streaky, I feel it cleans very well and almost feels like I'm spraying a shampoo when using it. Dirt seems to melt off the paint which is cool. The scent is somewhat overpowering in the garage. I get a bit nauseous after doing a whole car.

Too wet would be like an incomplete dry on a hose washed car, it would streak.

My guess is that since there are more lubricants this would make the streaks worse.

Spray and Wipe has more lubrication than a normal bucket wash ... a light mist does an entire panel ... it has been used on 100K street rod paint jobs with absolutely no scratching or streaking .. the key is following the directions and especially the last line ... the less you use the easier and the better the results ... it's a learning curve for those who have used products that need more product to do the same job .. one more tip .. if your towel becomes damp, it will streak as it has lost its ability to absorb ;)

I had the same issue- kind of- initially when S and W....as Poorboy and Ron said--streaking means youre using too much

I find myself using other QD's or WW and trying to spray the (smaller) poorboys s and w amuont and it does not do the same thing

this is like magic detail liquid or something

I also have fell in love recently with Spray and Gloss

but just try using a little less and flipping the towel more

I'm a spray waster so it was a little different for me to figure out but once I did it was 100% streak free even in sun so hot you couldn't touch the hood for more than 3 seconds

Thanks guys. My MF was always damp when using it so obviously I have been using too much. My thinking was you wanted more product on the panel to make sure it's entirely wet. I'll give it another go using less.

dschribs- I used a *LOT* of SpeedShine over the years. I found it quite "waxy" and finally quit using it in favor of more "sealanty" QDs, and now I'm gradually retiring most of those in favor of IUDJ (which continues to impress me more than I'd ever expected). Actually gave away my last gallon of it as a friend still uses it and I didn't want it to just go bad (the stuff *does* have a limited shelf-life even if you shake it up regularly).

Don't use too much of the SpeedShine, and FWIW I found it helpful to "fog" the surface with my breath during the final buff-off. I absolutely do *NOT* like it on glass, and sometimes it was a PIA to clean off of the windows.

I *did* like using it in a pseudo-spitshine manner when machine-waxing with M16, but if/when I messed up it exacerbated the "M16 residue" issue so maybe that's in the "don't try this at home, kids!" category. Still...it upped the appearance in a nice, if subtle, manner and gave me incredibly tiny, spherical beads while maybe *slightly* compromising the durability (hard to say for certain).

I use 2 towels. Dmts.

Spray and wipe and I'm left with micro beads of product. Take dry towel and wipe dry. No streaks.

Hey Accumulator, I was just thinking the other day what happened to spit shining lol! I took a long break and when I came back the scenery had changed!

Have to agree with what's been said. Moderation with this product is the key to ease of use. It's a great product. Now I will say that my experience with BF's Wet Diamond is that it is very sensitive to streaking with a little too much product. The fact that it leaves something behind can make it tough to use in cool temperatures as well. To the OP I'd recommend giving S&W another shot as opposed to looking for a replacement. I think once you've got your system down you'll become a fan.

Are you referring to the sealant, waterless wash, or the quick detailer? I've used all three in my garage and haven't noticed any streaking on my white van. Maybe I just couldn't see the streaks on white paint under standard fluorescent light. I haven't been good about using less product, but I'm working on that. I'm learning that almost all detailing chemicals work better when applied so thinly one can hardly tell they've been applied.

I plan to try Spray and Wipe because it's a forum favorite.

Jaddie, BlackFire Wet Diamond Waterless Wash Concentrate #2 is the product I'm specifically referring to. I mix it as recommended, 1 to 48 I believe but at 50 degrees it's been a real bear to get off. Even when it's 70 degrees it takes a little more wiping as I see streaks. It looks nice once applied and is very slick. I've put this over both BlackFire's Crystal Seal and Crystal Coat, they claim this is OK. I like the result but I now pay more attention when I use it. I too am mainly watching this happen on a white pearl paint. Have you by chance tried it when it's a little cooler?

Guys I find streaking to be more of a problem when the car is cool and there is high humidity. Seems to be harder to wipe dry and that's why I just adopted my 2 towel method. Seems to work in just about every situation.

I'm not sure. The coolest probably was high-60s.
