alright, so my nighthawk black pearl rsx is getting some swirls. i've just bought the car brand new about 3 months ago and i baby it as much as possible. garage kept, never street parked, etc. i tried using that meguairs 3 step cleaning system but it didnt really do the trick. everyone referred me to poorboys swirl removing products and after i just looked at it... theres different grades of swirl removers. ssr2, ssr2.5, etc. how do you know which grade to get, and is there a possibility of damaging paint if you use to much of a harsh grade?? and would anyone recommend the polish they sell? thanks a lot guys! and this wont be applied by hand, machine of course. =)

Hi Scud as a fellow NHB owner just want to say good color choice. Alright your car is basically brand new, babied, and garaged I would go for SSR1. I used it on my TSX and on other well maintaned cars with great success. You cant go wrong with it also recommend Menzerna FP2 a mild finishing polish although the SSR is great with a PC. Hope this helps a little.

SSR2 might be enough to tackle the swirls considering how much you take care of it.

SSR2.5 is a bit tougher on the swirls but still not too aggressive and won't leave a haze if you work it in well.

Then just SSR1 the rest of the time to keep it tip top.

Well said, i am also a fellow nbp'r and this regimine is my favorite. We all know how the honda clear coat is. I have an acura cls.

i was in the same situation as you. i ended up getting the ssr 2.5 but because i dont have a pc, a haze was left behind. it could be also that i am not applying it correctly. now im waiting to get the ssr1 so i can give it the 2.5 and 1 combo.

yea, i read somewhere on clubrsx.com in the detailing forum where people go from 2.5 to a 1... is that suppose to remove a haze thats left behind? and is there ANY possbility that a 2.5 can damage my new car since im still debating what grade to get. if anything, i might just get the 2.5 and the 1 for that combo that everyone seems to be doing... im still kinda new to this and learning... so any help would be appreciated. =)

Hello!

I have a Civic here in Spain, also a perled Nighthawk Black one. It´s really easy to get swirled! I think my paint has the same composition as your RSX, don´t know really.

Mine, in only one year (before entering in "detailing way of life"), had variety of them, from medium to heavy ones  . Nowadays it´s sorted, PC ( :bow ) + SSR 2.5 + SSR 1, topped with EX-P and few layers of Natty´s Blue :)

I only can recommend you to get a PC (if don´t have oye yet), and go for it!

Please, could you tell me your opinion of Honda clear coat? In my country Honda isn´t a best seller, I don´t have much chance of changing impressions.

With my little grade of experience, I can only say that it´s very easy to get it swirled...

Thanks in advance!

If you are applying by PC, then SSR2.5 with the proper pad will not damage the clear. In fact, you're meant to work in SSR2.5 until it is broken down. It does not break down enough by hand, therefore it leaves hazing on the paint. By PC, you can get by with just SSR2.5 and going straight to the wax. But I still prefer to apply SSR1.

Honda has notoriously soft clear coats. They swirl up pretty easily in other words. The exception to this is the single stage white paint. That uses a titanium oxide pigment and makes the paint VERY hard.

mmm.. i dont have a PC 7424 .... i have this ghetto one from walmart for like 40 bucks. i know i really should buy one but i cant seem to find a good deal for one... is this gonna cut it with the ssr2.5 or should i just not do anything till i get a real PC.

ahhhh i just noticed that a PC 7424 is on sale on autopia... would anyone say this is a good deal? and would anyone recommend getting all those different colored pads for applying polish, wax, etc? thanks a lot guys!

In USA, PC is very easy to find... I had to import mine, price get multiplied

!!!! but it´s worth, i would do it again.

Go and buy one, and tell us later ;)

Get one and never look back to hand polishing with poorboys again. I tried by hand and gave up because the swirls were not being removed. PC is the way.
