Poorboys / Menzerna / Optimum Choice

anyone? thoughts on the poorboys ex-p with caranuba?? is it a good final coat, how long does it typically last? any help would be greatly appreciate because I dont want to order from 10 different sites...autogeek has the pads, optimum compound/polish for the two steps before the final coat, and I'm trying to pick a product off there that you can apply with the PC that provides a deep wet gloss with long lasting protection..

PB's Ex w/ Carnauba will give you a slightly deeper and wetter look than EX-P. It's durability should last 2 months, which is a conservative estimate(your dedication to its proper upkeep will play a big factor). I don't think many on this site let their personal cars go more than 2 months without refreshing the LSP. But, you can search through the Click'n''Brag and see what some of the pros are seeing for durability on their clients' cars. I would suggest reading through Scottwax's postings as he uses EX-P frequently. If your car is dark, EX will probably satisfy what you're looking for better than EX-P.

awesome! thankYOU!!

I have used PB's and Optimum with PC.

The PB's line achieves good results with PC, but the 2.5 dusts a lot and the 2.0 to a lesser degree.

The Optimum line does not dust, but leave a somewhat oily residue. Very long working time with PC.

A quick QD or wash would remove that oily residue afterwards though, right?

This not a kind of remaining residue. Optimum uses lubricating oils to ensure a long working time. When you use the proper amounts of polish, and work them in sufficiently long the "residue" will be very little; almost non-existent, and it is very easy to wipe it off.

My ultimate polish regimen would be:

- Hi-Temp Extreme Cut

- Optimum Hyper Compound

- Optimum Polish

- Menzerna PO85RD

But you can use Finish Kare's 360 as well (good cut, nil dusting, long working time, LSP-ready finish on light colors), but it has a bit of a learning curve. Nevertheless, very good product, just as 17 & 330.

When you stick with Optimum, keep in mind that Optimum will release an even finer polish, which will be able to produce an extremely refined finish, just like PO85RD (or even better).

Bence, would these products be comparable to your regimen, abrasiveness-wise?

ssr3, ssr2.5, ssr1, AIO?

The extreme cut is more powerful than SSR3, yet finishes down great, OHC is somewhere around 2.5, OP is the rough equivalent of SSR1. The alternative for AIO for me definitely is Finish Kare 215. I have the Carlack 68 Nano/Jeffs Prime as well, but it is milder.

Does the Optimum Compound have enough cutting power for moderate swirls with an LC Orange pad using the PC? Or is the IP the way to go?

Also, can you go directly from IP to let's say, the AIO, and skip the FP?

I am also curious to this question, I just ordered the optimum compound and 2 LC orange pads, 2 white pads, and 2 finishing (gray pads)...and my brothers 03 true blue GT has moderate swirls so if no one responds I will be able to tell you later this week :2thumbs:

I've used the polished from both the Menzerna and Optimum product lines, particularly IP & FPII and OC & OP. I've found that I can go to AIO or LSP after IP on the lighter colored vehicles that I've use it on. Metallic silver, metallic light brown and sea foam green. In the case of the green and brown cars, I followed up some sections with FPII and didn't notice much of a difference, if any. However, those aren't my personal vehicles, so I probably wasn't as critical with the finish. Note that those vehicles only had light marring, if any and I used IP with a polishing pad (green Edge 2000 or green Propel).

I've read a number of threads where the poster has found that IP is LSP ready without FPII/OP/SSR1 on lighter colored vehicles and that blue, red and black probably will need the additional step. That said, see where you are at after using IP and go to LSP if you're satisfied, if not, then FPII.

Thanks drck1000 for your reply. I guess I will just have to see what it looks like after IP/OP/OHC, whichever I choose, to see if I can save myself a step.

Doesn't AIO have a little cutting power?

Assuming that you are talking about Klasse AIO (as opposed to FK1's AIO), it does not contain any abrasives and is a chemical cleaner/polish. I believe it's supposed to be able to round out the edges of swirls and reduces the amount that light reflects off of those surfaces. I am not 100% sure, but I though FK1's AIO has abrasives. But I haven't tried it and don't know much more about that product.

In the past, I've only used AIO as a chemical cleaner by hand and used very little pressure on the applicator pad. I recently tried it on a section of plastic trim that had some baked on water spotting and I noticed that after rubbing it in with some pressure, the spots started to come out and with additional passed with moderate pressure, it was able to get all of the water spots out. The more I use AIO, the more I like it. I already use it on exterior glass, plastic trim and wheels in addition to painted surfaces. Some skip AIO and go straight to LSP after polishing. I've always followed up with AIO and have seen pretty good durability with the sealants that I use and I attribute that to the good clean base that AIO provides for sealants like UPP, EXP and even Colllinite.
