PoorBoys EX Problem

Just tried Poorboys EX for the first time today and wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem as I am. I used VM as my base and then preceded to apply EX to the whole vehicle. This was just purchased and was told this was the new formula. For one thing EX is very thick and doesn't spread very easy although is does buff off with a microfiber towel with no problems at all. I also love the shine.

After waiting 30 to 60 minutes as per the instructions I buffed off with a microfiber towel. About 30 minutes to an hours later is when my problems started. I started seeing little spots that look like tire dressing sling. This was all over the vehicle.

I got another microfiber towel and redid the entire vehicle thinking this would solve the problem. Wrong!!! You guessed it about 20 minutes later same thing. I decided to use my Adams Detail Spray on the whole vehicle and this seemed to take care of it.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've heard so many good things about this product but honestly I don't think I'll use it again. The vehicle I was doing was a first time customer + I can't constantly be redoing things like this.

I am an EX user and havnt really had that problem. IM guessing that maybe what you were seeing was some streaks or residue left over from the VM. VM is oily as it is a glaze. I usually try to allow a little while for VM to dry a little, or just really do a good job and removing. I usually DS the entire car before moving onto any steps so you made the rigth desicion by DSing! VM is just my guess?

I agree with greg on this one. The VM really needs to taken off well. Maybe the lighting prevented you from noticing the streaks before the EX .

I've had the exact same problem, was driving me crazy. Found that by applying it very, very thin using PC with a black finishing pad at speed 3 the spots did not come back. (also left it on for 30 minutes before removing). Try it this way, should work!

I didn't experience the exact same problem, but I did feel that VM compromised EX's beading. My version of EX is the older version, and I have used it with a variety of other "bases" successfully; so the results wouldn't be attributed to the user being unfamiliar with the product.

just curious. did you get the VM and EX as a package from Pak Shak?

Greg
I purchased it as a package from Detailed Image. Instead of using VM would I have be better off using AIO with EX? I really prefer applying sealants by hand and don't really want to use a machine just to make this work. Have been using SG and 4*UPP with no problems with AIO as a base.

I've heard so many good things about VM and EX that I decided to give it a try. If VM is indeed the cause would this hapen if I applied 4*UPP after VM?

I've used the VM/EX combo a few times with no bonding or spotting issues. Just make sure you carefully wipe off any remaining VM residue, and then apply the EX very thinly with a slightly damp applicator. A PC makes thin application a little easier, but it can also be done by hand. When applying by hand, I prefer to use either a Viking Handi-Grip applicator or a Poorboy's PVA sponge. The standard round yellow foam applicators don't seem to work as well with the thicker types of sealants.

This was my response from Poorboys.

"It was probably the VM that was used as a base. The EX that Detailed image has is the new version and will probably not bond to the VM without the VM being totally cured."

My question is how long does it take for VM to cure?

You asked if AIO woudl be a better base. I guess it woudl but if you wipe up all excess from VM you shouldnt have a problem. I almost always use a glaze and then top that. I asked what the curring time was for VM once and i got an answer of probably not longer than 30 mintues. I dont know if that is true. But i didnt really think it had a curing time.

Clearcoat refers to VM as a wax on the bottle. I think you should wait 24 hours before putting anything over it. I've used UPP over VM and the depth was astounding.

Recently i did RM and EX. I didnt get the weird spotting you did, but i found that a damp pad works alot better than a dry, or even misted one.

I recently did my dark grey Acura with VM and EX-P and had no spotting - used the PC with VM @ 5.5 and waited for the finger swipe test to remove - then EX-P with PC @ 3 - have since done 2x of natty's and it looks and feels like buttah !
