Poorboy's Edge M5

Hey guys,

The other day I had the opportunity to tackle this 2001 M5. It has 97,000 miles on it, so there was plenty of work to do. The intention is that the guy is going to sell it in the coming weeks to buy a Ferrari 348 (ha, add another one to my list) :bigups

The paint had mega swirls into it, as the picture will show. Keep in mind, this isn't in full sun either; it was a mess!

My good friends at Edge developed the new DA 2000 pad. This one in particular has a yellow mild cut on one side, and the blue polishing on the other. This was perfect for the quick change. By the way, no problems with the threading or anything, but thanks for the heads up. These new pads rock!! If you thought the original DA's were good, your in for a shock. Well worth the $$, and over time, it'll save you some bucks.

The soap I used was the remaining portion of the Poorboy's Prototype soap that I have enjoyed using. SOO many suds, a smell similar to the New and Improved QD+, and plenty of lubrication (in this case, the lubrication didn't matter, as I was doing a full detail anyway. However, this soap in the making is very nice to use on freshly detailed vehicles). I used the Adam's Polishes Claybar (my favorite), along with their detail spray as the lube.

For the paint regimen, I decided to use Poorboy's SSR 2.5. This is the second testing formula I received, and the 2nd car I have done with it. I really like it, and if I'm not mistaken, this is the production version. With the yellow side down and the PC cranked to 5.5-6, I was on my way. I then flipped the pad to the blue side and hit the car with SSR1. For the finale, the protection was Adam's Butter Wax by hand. This thing looks smooth as anything.

Interior got a fresh, and much needed, helping of Poorboy's Natural Look, and the tires were lathered up with Bold n' Bright.

The customer was very pleased with the results as he called me later that night asking to do the wife's 325 :) Can't complain about that!

P.S. The shipping from Premium Auto Care is amazing!! Thanks Dwayne!!
P.S.S. The car is a sweet one to drive!

Wheels AFTER. This was accomplished by using Adam's Polishes Aluminum Polish (is safe for all metals and clear coats):

Have you used the 7.5 Advanced pads from LC? How do the Edge pads perform for a beginner? How did you clean up that front quarter? It seems so dirty and muky. Did you polish the rims with a microfiber or just terry cloth? Whats the routine you do with Natural Look?

Sweet bimmer! Nice to see 2.5 working well and tackling all those swirls. I hope the 325 isn't as bad. :LOLOL

Sorry for all the questions :)

Some fun shots. The cop pulled up like 5 minutes after I was taking photos. He probably thought I was coming back later to boost the ride. Good thing I didn't peel out in front of him. This clutch is sensitive!

Woob--

I haven't used the 7.5" pads from LC. Personally, I think 7-8 is pretty big to work with. I have some 4" pads I absolutely love to play with. Great for smaller areas and motorcycles and such.

The front quarter was just washed, clayed, and then using the PC, I used the SSRs.....nothing special :)

As for performance, I think they would apply to any and all levels of detailing. I went with all 5 colors with the original pads because I legitimately had a use for them. As for the average joe, you could still find use for at least 3, if not all 4 (no black pad now).

For the rims, I cleaned them using Power Wheel by Top of the Line. This is the best all wheel cleaner I've got my hands on as of yet. From there, I take a terry wrapped foam applicator to apply the Aluminum polish, then I take the bulk of the residue off with a shop towel, and finish off with a designated non-paint microfiber. For the pictures, I sprayed the rims with Megs Final Detail.

For Natural Look and other similar dressings, I only use the gray foam applicators from Adam's. I bought tons of these. They clean up very well afterwards. They have pictures of them on their site.

Hope I covered the ?'s. I'd be happy answer any others you might have.

Thanks Nick! Your work makes me wanna buy more products, which isn't good at all :D Does the Power Wheel from TOL foam? Or is it like a gelly liquid that clings and lets you wash easily.

Keep posting and buying :)

Cars look amazing, I bet the M5 was a blast to drive.

I bought Power Wheel Wash from Anthony's suggestion.....by the gallon! It was very inexpensive, and what I did was use up my Meg's Hot Rims foaming sprayer and filled it from there. I dilute it 1:1, and it goes a long way. It's not like a typical liquid, but the foaming sprayer is a must in my opinion for wheel cleaning.

Yes, the car was fun to drive, however, I only put it in 3rd gear through the subdivision. :naughty

Hey Nick, I know you'll get a kick out of this. Also, looks like I gotta work on getting another Ferrari to keep up with you. :lmfao

Isn't the Meg's foaming sprayer in a can? Or is that the plastic sprayer. Man A chatroom would be better right now. thanks for posting abou the PC info.

Only 3rd? Then again 3rd can go pretty high :)

Too cool my friend. Looks as if we are obtaining a similar market miles and miles away! Keep up the good work!! :bigups

a very zesty job!!!! now if only i could get my hands on one of those cars.... very nice, i cant wait to get ssr 2.5 from ranney!!! ive already gotten my edge 2000 pads yesterday :)

Nick great work I love the transformation. Have you used A2Z before as a wheel cleaner how does the TOL Power Wheel Wash compare did it take the baked on brake dust from the inside lip of the wheel off easily without scrubbing or. ?

Also have you used SSR2.5 or SSR1 with a rotary yet if so what pads edge that is what colors. ? I have SSR1 and I tried it with white edge after DACP and it didnt get rid of the mircomarrying left by DACP as menzerna FP does for me.
