Polishing Question

Seeking the perfect shine
How often is TOO often to polish your paint? I've read threads on here that have mentioned things about polishing too often.....how often is too often?

I have some light swirls on my car right now.....what products that can be purchased locally would you suggest? The only polishes I have at the moment are Megs DACP and SMR. I've used DACP with great results in the past, but would it be TOO aggressive for light swirls? Will WolfGang's Paint Cleanser or Klasse AIO do anything to remove swirls?

I've read that SMR does little more than FILL scratches. If I use WG or AIO to cleanse and prepare the surface for a sealant (WG or UPP or EX-P), won't most of the benefits of SMR be removed? Won't I end up with scratches reappearing after the paint cleansing?

I know a lot of ppl would suggest Megs SFP or PBs SSR1. I don't have either of these products right now. I have SSR1 and SSR2.5 on the way from PAC. They won't be here until Tues, though :(. I have the day off, tmw, and would like to get my car detailed and remove some of this micromarring that's been bothering me. Would NXT applied by PC be enough to help the swirls? If so, I may use that to get by until I get my PB's and get some time to polish the paint with the SSR1.

To remove the swirls you'll need some form of light polish. Some people find that Pro Polish or AIO can help with micromarring but seeing as though they are chemical cleaners I do not see them removing the light swirls. If you want to get this done go to a local auto body supply shop tomorrow and pick up some #80 or PI III MG, they both work mechanically and will take care of the light swirls. About too much polishing I polish my car with FPII about every 8-10 weeks when I fully detail my car.

Depends on the product. I wouldn't use a product like DACP, SSR2.5 or more abrasive polishes too often (like every month). Two or three times a year is plenty.
A product like SSR1 or FP II can be used a little more frequently.

Depending on how "light" the swirls are, the DACP may, or may not be too aggressive. A product like Meguiar's #9 followed by NXT may remove/hide them until the other stuff comes. ScratchX would be another local product that will remove them. (if they are light/medium swirls) Mothers' Sealer & Glaze is another one you can find locally.

If they are indeed "light swirls, they may be "superficial" swirls, and the paint cleanser (AIO or WG paint cleanser) may remove more that you think.

Depends on the "SMR"... some use fillers (like #9) and some don't.

NXT applied with PC will definitely "hide" quite a few of the swirls. If you use #9 prior to the NXT, you will "hide" a lot of them.

Hope this helps.

If you want to try a little PB SSRs, let me know. I hate to have free time and product in the mail.
I don't have any serious details set for this weekend.
PM me. I am local.

I appreciate the input, guys.

Hopped on over to Paul's place and we detailed the Teg--outside, anyway. It was too dark when I got home to take any pics, so, sorry for the lack of them.

I really appreciate the help and the company, yesterday, Paul. It was nice to meet another DCer. I appreciate the samples, too. SUX that it rained, today!! That shop you have is great! Looking forward to when I can buy a house and have one of my own. :D Ahh..the NSX:drool
