Polishing My black supra. what a nightmare.

Gave it my best tonight, but not quite happy with the results. maybe 70% correction at best. but I guess I will just have to live with that. Time to start saving up 10k for a proper paint job I guess. I will have them put LOTS of clear on it then. 5-6 layers :P

The best method I found was this.

PFW and SIP 1 pass

Orange pad 106ff 1 pass

Blue pad 106ff 1 pass

I will stick to this on the entire car and hope for the best. atleast it will be better looking than it was before I started. heres a shot of a finished section, but unfortunately the halogen bulb took a crap on me so only normal garage lighting. not the same. impossible to see the swirls without the halogen.

I'll post some pictures when she's all done and you guys can judge for yourself :P

But I will be buying a maktia rotary and retry with a few different polishes and whatnot. but battle is lost for now.

Can you elaborate on this?

what i mean is that if it was a SS paint to start with, they may have just cleared over the original paint. Thus leaving all of the old paints imperrections. Same thing occurs if you scuff the base coat prior to clearing it. you cant fully correct without removing all the clear.

Guess I could check this with a paint gauge ???

i guess you could. easiest thing would just be to contact the original owner or painter. they 'should' remember. if you are willing to find out the hard way though you could just wet sand the worst spot in the hood until you get the scratches out. you 'should' be able to tell if you go through the clear. just do a small area and if you do go through, just keep an extra layer of wax on that spot until you get it painted and it wouldn't be very visible. but thats only if you are wanting to learn to wet sand anyways. lol.

before you start doing all of that, if you get at an extreme angle with a flashlight shining toward you. can you still see the scratches ?

I will give that one a try and see. Either way im not going to wetsand and ****. I will just be polishing it to the best I can and leave it at that. Respray will be needed some time later in its life anyway so I guess I will just keep it as tidy as i can until its time for the respray. when time comes im not gonna be saving a dime on ****** paintjob. remove all glass ,All new moldings ,weather strippings and whatnot. so It's going to be expensive. but Im happy with the looks for now.

I actually think that they have just cleared the SS paint, but im not sure. I live in norway and I don't know how many owners the car have had and who did what so can't be bothered finding out who resprayed it. But why would they clearcoat the ss paint ?

Well if you are happy with the appearance then that is all that matters. The first post was mostly me screwing around about eating through the clear. thats why i asked about the light so soon afterwards. Alot of times people will just clear their SS paint to try and save money. The catch to it is that the painter is supposed to have the base flawless prior to clear. Unfortunately they never seem to do that. lol. just keep her clean and waxed and don't sweat it. good luck.
