OK, Understand this is the 1st time I have done the whole muti-step detail process so bear with me guys. Im woking with a 98 Artic Silver BMW, the paint is in pretty good shape, it has been repainted in areas to repair a few dings and their are a lot of new parts that have been painted in the last 1 to 1 1/2 years. The car is not garaged but I keep it very clean all the time. Once I found this and other sites about detailing I decided to bring my cleaning process up a notch and have purchased a PC and a bunch of products.. Blah Blah. SO what I have done to this point is

Dawn wash

clay

rewash

UPC

UPP

and once finished I will put a carnuba topper on it.

But......

I have put 1 coat of UPP on to this point and while it looks good I think I should have done a bit more work with the UPC. Am I correct to think that if I am not getting the shine I am looking for I need to go back and work with UPC a bit more then re-apply UPP (2 coats?) then use the carnuba? D

Also for those of you that use a PC what speed do you work the product at and just how much product should I be using on the pad. Should it all work out with the PC or will I need to finish with a MF towel?

Thanks in advance for the help from all the "Pros"

I don't know how good of a polish UPC is. My impression is that it's very mild. For a 5 yr old car with paint in mixed condition, I think you need a more aggressive polish, then follow with UPC and UPP.

If it were me I'd use Meguiar's DACP or 3M PI3 MG. But since you're in Europe, get some Einszett Lack Politur (green bottle). Its new here to the States but early reviews are very positive. Also I'm sure Menzerna polish are available in Germany too. Lots of talk about Menzerna here so do a search on it. Follow up the polishes with the UPC and you should be set.

As for the PC it depends on what product is being used. I suggest starting at 3 or 4, work the product slowly and evenly, then crank it to 5-6 and finish it off. I apply an "X" on the pad to polish a panel; I don't know how much product that is, its just a thin X. I work it until there's only a little product to wipe off the panel, then move on.

Sorry this thread showed up as locked for a while; I must have fat-fingered things when I moved it from Detailing to Autopia University . . .
