polishing ball

Going to throw a question to see if anybody has used both of these. I have been using mothers power ball for a while now and on my fourth one now. I need to order another one, but I bumped in the Flitz and that they make a similar one called the polishing ball for about 10.00 less than mothers. My question is has anybody used both of these and how do you compare the results and the durability.

I've used the Powerball several times and find it useful on my polished rims (especially the inner rim). It's a little big IMO and waaaaay overpriced for the product.

I don't think I'd buy another unless the foam "ball" replacement comes down to $5 or so. After I wear it out, I'm going back to the cotton buffing wheels (which I can buy for $2 - $4 each).

where do you get your Cotton buffing wheels? and do you just put these on a cordless drill ? or do you use a corded?

I wonder if Lake Country will be coming out with a version of such a product? Maybe I should give them a call...

thanks Toland great link, great info. Now which ones do you recomend and for what types or rims (chrome, polished, etc. etc.)

:beat

sorry to put you out there :D

This is the cotton bob's that brought for polishing. I use it on a high speed rotary with the Pro 40 liquid polish. It worked wonders on my polished aluminum rims. The bob's turn black pretty easy so I soaked mine over night in Oxy-clean and they came back to life. I've had mine for two years and its not really showing any signs of wear. They have adapters for drills and rotary's so you can use them in about all applications.

The Zephyr Pro40 is avaiable threw Dwayne on this site not sure about the cotton bob's. I get mine from a local detail supplier here in Sonoma County.

I use the following on my electric drill: I also think you could use this just as well on a decent battery powered drill.

For initial polishing: Spiral Sewn Mounted 2.5" diameter

For final buffing: Loose Cotton Mounted 3" diameter

Inside rims or deep dish outer: Cylinder Buff (very nice product IMO)

I typically start with a good polish like Wenol Red, Simichrome, Meguiar's All Metal Polish.

For final buff: Mother's Billet Creme or Meguiar's NXT Metal polish

I don't belive I have ever seen the inside of a wheel that looked like the one in your picture.
Even new, they don't look that good.
Great job, but it had ro be a lot more work than I would ever have the patience for.

Thanks Charles: they are Team III Wheels (exact replica's of the original Halibrands). They build to order and take a long time to get (6 weeks+) but are worth it. They come polished as you see them and I try to keep them highly polished inside & out (pretty much a monthly wheels off chore/love). I've got them mounted on a 2003 Dark Shadow Gray Mach 1 and they give the car a unique appearance as well as weighing only 15 Lbs ea (quite a reduction from stock wheel weight).

Many moons ago (around 1971-1972) I had a chrome plating/polishing business in South Carolina for custom motorcycle parts that gave me a good education on keeping metal polished...guess it still applies :)

See Ya

the mach is super clean just needs to be lowered, i got the mother pwoerball and it does cut down time but i might just go with what totoland mach said, very good advice. the mother ball does seem to big and overpriced for my rodlites
